Starting Stuff
Starting Stuff…and Other Stuff
Starting Gear
Everyone should start with a total of 22,000 CrImps. Discard your rescue mission gear from Mertactor and buy fresh starting equipment. You can’t afford most of the listed items below, anyway, but I’m not allowing the following as starter gear:
Any item higher than TL14,
Heavy Weapons (unless cleared),
Plasma or Fusion Weapons,
Implants, Upgrades, or Prosthetics not already included in the char sheets as written for the Mertactor mission,
Drugs (unless cleared, most are ok, really just no combat drugs),
Psi Equipment (unless cleared).
Starting Organizational Style
Your first mission will be somewhat mandatory, both to make things easier on me, and to provide the backstory whereby you get your Mercenary License. Further missions for your initial employer will be optional and it will be completely up to you how you want to organize, train, and reward the members of the team.
As this is a mercenary organization, I will require that someone be nominally in command. This will simulate more than simple status: the character so chosen will be the only person able to roll tactics at the start of combat. They will also get an automatic +2 to Leadership rolls. This character can vary between missions, but is fixed during a mission. Either Int or Edu can be used as the modifier to this skill check. Tactics and Leadership are important: as these missions are combat centric, initiative will be dynamic! (if I can keep up with it…stop snickering, Nick! :)
I intend to keep this sidegame on a concurrent timeline with the main game, Mertactor. As the Expendables are relatively simple characters, not much will be done between missions, either in situ or in transit. Not much except for that one constant of mercenary life: drunken whoring. Oops, I meant intense training. We’ll be using the training rates Nick set up for Mertactor, so expect decent skill advancement. However, you will need to hire a trainer (subject to approval) to train any new (level 0) skill.
