The Little Trouble Pub
A favorite among expats looking to get close, but not too close to the seedier side of Shanghai. It features strong drinks, a dark, but scrupulously clean, interior, and attentive waiters and waitresses well-versed in several foreign languages.
Shanghai’s well-to-do might drift through the Little Trouble looking for an illicit thrill, such as possibly seeing an up-and-coming gangster, or slumming with a local friend or mistress, but otherwise the sort of people one would meet here are the hungry ones, with a taste of the mountains of cash that might be there, and big, big dreams.
Braver types might descend to the club in the basement, most commonly known as The Black Cat Bar in the foreign community, but few have the desire to go there more than once.
