Port Echo was a vital naval station during the Angevin Crusade which maintained its importance as the staging point for the Licenian Crusade. In the 700 years since warp storms swallowed the crusade and cut off the Licenian subsector, Port Echo has diminished significantly, its strategic placement now vanished as a mostly-forgotten station at the edge of impassible storms. Although still nominally maintained by the Imperial Navy, it has become a port for pirates and smugglers, existing far from the watchful eye of the Emperor’s Law.
Port Echo has been ruled as a virtually independent pirate-fiefdom by Lord-Captain Finn for the last 200-odd years. Finn took a half-empty station full of forgotten rejects and forged it into a bustling trade center. It just so happens that most of the trade that comes through Port Echo is illicit. He has furthermore solicited the renegade Navigator House Virth to put down roots, and they provide navigational service for Finn’s secret flotilla of warp-capable raiders and transports which permit his illicit influence to extend far beyond what most would consider possible for the Captain of a remote station.
Lord-Captain Finn’s anonymous prosperity is now threatened, however, by the waning of the storms that made his station obsolete. Task Force Litany has arrived under Commodore Tyrian bringing with it all the harsh scrutiny of the Imperial Navy.
