Delving in Ptolus

November 06, 2008 01:40

After waiting in line and getting a glimpse of the Ptolus bureaucracy, our intrepid adventurers get their city papers and are allowed into the City by the Spire

As soon as their pass the North Gates, Gidjet, Mamon, Agon, and Sappho are awed by the vastness of the city, the impossibly tall tower to the west, and the sheer amount of people in the streets. They are also approached by Arshavin, a young half-elf who is a fan of Delvers – the courageous explorers of the Dungeon under Ptolus. Arshavin gives them a little information about the city and helps our heroes find House Rau.

House Rau is in the Nobles Quarter of Ptolus. Our young adventurers are welcomed by Sheva Callister, a noble of Rau. The man they were hoping to meet, Jarel, is still out on business (Mamon had found a note mentioning that trip and a mysterious “midnight oil” shipment when he broke into Jarel’s room) and isn’t expected to come back for another 2 weeks.

Since Engar and Brutus were members of House Rau, Sheva invites our intrepid heroes to stay in Rau Manor.

The excitement of the big city got to our young adventurers and they decided to see what the delving hoopla is about. They are introduced to Delver’s square and its exotic wares, the Undercity, and the Delvers Guild.

The safest bounties offered by the Delvers Guild is for ratmen tails. The ratmen infest the city sewers. Our heroes boldly go into the serwer tunnels and easily find a ratmen nest.

They attack the nest, the ratmen defend their territory ferociously and eventually push the intruders out and a wall collapses, effectively ending the intrusion. The rat tail hunting mission is a semi-success – the heroes survive, even thrive, but didn’t get to retrieve the tails because they got locked out of the nest by the collapsed wall.

Nonetheless Mamon, Gidjet, Agon, and Sappho gained a little experience, a few gold pieces. They also discovered the extent of their abilities, and maybe a future career in delving…

Leaving Carper's Bay

November 06, 2008 01:24

Our intrepid adventurers leave their home in Carper’s Bay to investigate the death of their 2 beloved masters, Engar and Brutus.

The Old Coast Road has never been safe. Most of the commerce is maritime, but the few merchants traveling overland are known to hire mercenaries, more like small armies.

Agon, Mamon, Sappho, and Gidjet discover how harsh life is on the road when they get ambushed by kobolds. Their training – although never completed due to the untimely demise of their master – and the little experience they gained in Silvermoon Forest proved worthwhile. The kobolds seemed organized – they all had a small dragon enblem on their armors and weaponds – yet were no match for our heroes. Only one of them escaped.

Good fortune allowed our young adventurers to reach Ptolus with no other incidents.

Jarel Rau comes to Carper's Bay

October 04, 2008 11:21

A strange man called Jarel shows up in Carper’s Bay claiming to know that he was told Engar and Brutus had died. He also claimed to have information about the killers – or at least clues that would lead to the killers.

A clever trap – involving massive amounts of alcohol – was set to discover just how much Jarel knew, and if he was to be trusted. Here’s what was discovered:

  • Jarel is a noble from House Rau of Ptolus
  • He believes that a red-haired female ranger was involved in the murder. That ranger can be found in a small town called Vioth.
  • Vioth has a big kobold infestation problem and the kobolds are well organized.
  • Engar and Brutus were House Rau agents.

Mamon also did a bit of exploring and discovered:

  • Someone was spying on Brutus’ and Engar’s houses.
  • Jarel has orders: he needs to get our intrepid adventurers to work for House Rau and he needs to escort a “Midnight Oil” shipment back to Ptolus on the way back to the city.
  • Fortunes can be made with Stealth and Thievery checks!

Master Murder Mystery

October 04, 2008 11:10

Our intrepid heroes have awaited the time of the rite of passage for years. But when the time came, events didn’t unfold as planned.

On a Queensday morning, Agon, Mamon, Sappho, and Gidjet wait for the training session to begin, but Engar and Brutus – their 2 masters – never show up. Instead, a young boy delivers a note:

“You have three weeks to find us. If you find us, your training will be complete. We are hidden in Moonsilver Forest. Be careful, not everything is at is seems in Moonsilver.”

After fightng their way through Moonsilver Forest, its drakes and its dire wolves, for a day, the party discovers a hideout – a cavern. That’s where their masters are hiding, or resting.

Resting in peace – Engar and Brutus are dead. Their corpses are in the cavern.

2 things seem odd about this cavern:

  1. There are no tracks in the caverns, like the corpses slowly flew through the cave and were gently dropped on the ground.
  2. The corpses have stab wounds under the sternum, but there’s no blood anywhere.

Our intrepid heroes bring the corpses back to town help prepare the burial ceremony. But an odd character shows up for the burial…
