Relative Distances And Travel Times
Size of the World
The entirety of the Middle Isles takes up an area roughly the size of the Mediterranean (2500 miles long by 1100 miles wide).
Over easy terrain (grasslands, light hills, light forest), a band of travelers may travel 2 miles per hour.
Over moderate terrain (rugged hills, heavy forest), a band of travelers may travel 1 miles per hour.
Over harsh terrain (mountainous terrain, swamps, harsh desert), a band of adventurers may only make a single mile’s progress every two hours.
On horseback, a party setting an easy pace may travel 3 miles per hour.
On horseback, a party setting a difficult pace may travel 5 miles per hour.
At a grueling gallop, a party on horseback may make 10 miles per hour, but this cannot be long maintained.
Horseback travel is not common in the Middle Isles, but remember that harsh and even some types of moderate terrain are not suitable for travel by horseback.
