The Crash
The Crash was an event that rang across the world, though at the time information was very sketchy. A bright light appeared for a few minutes near the moon and since at the time the moon colony did not exist details of what created the light are vague at best. The light itself only lasted a couple of minutes before fading away. Soon after a astronomical satellite captured a picture of an oddly shaped object heading toward Earth from a trajectory that passed near the moon where the light had been. Due to the objects size of about 300m in length and about 100m in width astronomers became worried that this could be a possible planet killing asteroid. However as the object got closer to Earth, and scientists broke the news to the governments of the world about the highly possible extinction event, the object did something completely unprecedented. It decelerated.
The astronomers and scientists were astounded at this behavior and started trying to figure out what that would mean in terms of surviving collision. The object in the meantime continued slowing down until it almost managed to settle into an orbit instead of colliding. It did not succeed in creating a stable orbit however and fell into the atmosphere. Even so it continued to try to slow it’s decent as it fell towards the pacific ocean, eventually colliding with a pacific island. Despite the objects efforts to retard it’s decent it hit with the force of nuclear weapon destroying everything on the island and impaling itself into the ground.
Japan and Australia had the first vessels on scene, but soon the Chinese fleet arrived and cordinned off the island. They sent scientists in to examine the object and discovered that it was most likely some sort of spacecraft. Though it had taken extreme damage in the collison and little remained of the vessel except it’s superstructure and warped and damaged components in the end farthest from impact.
