Shades

Reflections of one’s actions in life; Shades describe how a person of a given nature will manifest that Archetype in death.

It’s important to understand that, strictly speaking, the shades are an artificial construct of Orpheus Scientist who realized that people who possessed certain psychological archetypes seemed to manifest those natures in certain ways.

Banshees voice insight, understanding the emotions of others and foreseeing what those emotions will cause. This insight drives them to help others work through their pain and resolve their problems, from the living who cannot endure their lives to he dead who are trapped in endless cycles of repetition.

Haunters can adapt to anything, and make themselves at home wherever they may be; they’re also constantly driven to new places and new adventures, never content with ther current standing. Because of this need to explore, though, they’re less likely to make lasting connections with the people around them.

Poltergeists embody frustration and anger, using their pent-up rage s a blunt force. To them, life is nothing but frustration. This Shade is a manifestation of the sudden outbursts that anybody can experience when life becomes too much, and when an unendurable situation is suddenly resolved in white hot, brilliant rage.

Skinriders are the essence of control; control of others, control of themselves, control of the world around them. They have no faith that anybody other than theselves can do a job properly. As far as they’re concerned, the world needs sorting out, and only they have the ability or willpower to do it.

Will-o’-the-wisps are distraction given form, tricksters whether or not there’s a need for it and confidence artists with enough charisma to sell their claims. They lead others astray; sometimes to truth, sometimes not.

Horrors

Horrors are the abilities that characters in Orpheus can use when they are in ghost form. These abilities are reflections of one of the eight Shades a character can possess, and are remarkably flexible in how they can be used. Horrors can be powered by Vitality or Spite, though choosing the latter may not create the desired effect for the ghost.

Horrors seem to be similar to the powers that Ghosts and other PLEs seem to manifest, but make use of a Projector’s Life Force as a fuel source, allowing a Projector far more flexibiity.

While some projectors have manifested powers that have yet to be catagorized by scientists, only twelve have been confirmed and studied, five of which seem to be inborn into a Projector and lead to them being catagorized into a Shade:

Bedlam allows a Projector to manipulate the perceptions of their targets. No known Archetype manifests this Horror Naturally.
Conjeal is the power to create weapons from a projector’s Gauze.
Death Mask allows the Projector to make gross changes to their Spectral Body.
Familiar allows a Projector to call on the ghosts of animals, summoning them to his aid. No known Archetype manifests this Horror naturally.
Forebode allows the Projector to gain glimpses of the future and the past.
Ghost Waltz transports the Projector from one location to another almost instantly.
Helter Skelter distills a Poltergeist’s frustration and rage into tactile control, allowing them to manipulate objects move objects. Banshees lack the rage necessary to weild this Horror.
Inhabit allows Haunters to inhabit and control inanimate objects and even places.
Juggernaut enables the user to bolster his physical power when manifesting.
Puppetry is a Skinrider’s ability to possess and control the living. Because of their innate lack of control Wisps never Manifest this Horror.
Sandman allows a Projector to view, manipulate and even enter the dreams of others.
Unearthly Repose is a Wisp’s legendary charismatic aura. Because of their distaste for such machinations, Poltergeists seem incapable of making use of this Horror.
Wail allows the Banshees to elicit an emotional response or cause devistation with nothing but their voice. Because Haunters seem to lack the requisite empathy, they do not possess the ability to use this Horror.
Witch’s Nimbus allows a Projector to generate and wield Fire and Lightning.
