A yearly religious festival in Sandpoint. The Swallowtail Festival is officiated by the Dean of the Sandpoint Cathedral of Desna. The festival is an open-air, weather-permitting, festival performed to reconsecrate the grounds of the Cathedral, provide material offerings to the Gods for another bountiful year of crops and ensured blessings for the coming winter.
The festival is a week-long affair, which opens with an official series of speeches by Sandpoint leaders and culminates with the release of the Swallowtails – butterflies revered as the children of Desna – which kicks off the festival.
Merchants arrive from across the area, selling their wares, while the local farmers, merchants, sailors and fishermen, trade for the supplies that will be needed for the coming winter months.
