Glory to Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, the merciful wind.

Quetzalcoatl flies beneath the sun in the form of a great serpent, clad in brilliant feathers. In his flight, he ensures that the heavens and the earth remain apart.

It is said that Quetzalcoatl loves the race of mankind more than any other god. When the bones of men were brought from Mictlan to live again upon the earth, it was Quetzalcoatl’s magic that brought them life.

When Itzpapalotl took the bones of mankind from Mictlan she brought them to Quetzalcoatl and told him “If you give life to these bones I shall do what I have sworn never to do and become your wife.”

With a stone knife Quetzalcoatl cleaved off his penis, and when his blood fell upon the bones the race of man lived once more. When Itzpapalotl offered again herself as bride, Quetzalcoatl refused for now he was a eunuch and desired no woman. He would bear no child, for the whole race of mankind had become his children.

Prayers are said to Quetzalcoatl for mercy, for healing, and for rebirth.
