You point your finger and fire a black ray of negative energy that damages any living creature it strikes. You make a ranged touch attack to hit. If you hit, the ray does 2d6 points of negative energy damage plus 1d6 points per 2 caster levels (max 8d6).
An undead creature struck by a ray of negative energy instead gains 3d6 temporary hit points for 1 hour. Constructs and other nonliving items are unaffected by the ray.
