As the players enter the passage:

The passage travels only a short distance before coming to a dead end. At the end, the worked stone walls give way to rough earth, and the floor of the area has a large dark pit in the center.

Features of the Area

The Pit: The passage, about 8 feet across, descends some 50’ before it opens in the ceiling of The Chasm. The walls are crumbling earth, making the climb downward slow and dangerous (treat as uneven, slippery surface, base DC 20 for Athletics checks to climb.)
