Session December 4th, 2012 Chat Log
Sandulf & Elia gather their gear and head out to attempt to get a look at this supposed Dragon and determine whether he’s sane or not. The rest of you return to your rooms, content with your full stomachs and ready to relax for an hour or two before going to sleep.
l1wolf-WoT (Conall Anon): sure
Sochaia, you and Ni’tareus resume your deception, pretending to be a married noble couple and head back to your rooms. Ni’tareus fixes his pallet on the floor, then sits in the chair next to the fireplace and reads. You do the same thing, reading from bed.
Kael, you return to your room, as does Terith, who has a room upstairs.
Approximately forty five minutes after dinner, trouble begins. Sochaia, you feel a slight sense of unease coming from Sandulf to the north of you. He feels just distant enough to already be up at the manor house by this point, and you know something is wrong. Several times since he left, you’ve felt apprehension, but this time there’s more to it. Not fear, but definitely more than apprehension. Something has changed. You aren’t sure if this means he and Elia have finally found this Dragon Reborn fellow and the man is completely insane and that’s why Sandulf is feeling the way he is, or if this is because of something else…like he was caught sneaking around in a place where he shouldn’t have been.
As you sit up in your bed and put your book down, starting to tell Ni’tareus something is wrong and the party may need to investigate, you suddenly feel your ring go warm and then the River & the Rose is completely rocked by a terrifying explosion. Looking down, the polished stone ring on your hand is blood red. Saidin is being channeled somewhere near you.
Immediately you hear screaming coming from further back in the inn. Ni’tareus is instantly on his feet. He hasn’t undressed yet, as it isn’t time for bed, but he did have his sword removed so he could sit in the chair by the fire. He looks to you with a deep look of concern as he rises from the chair and grabs his sword belt to strap it around his waist. “Whatever that was, it couldn’t have been…”
Ni’tareus is cut off by a male voice speaking from somewhere outside of the inn. His voice is amplified by the One Power. “We know you’re in there, Sochaia Doisech. Try to hide as you might, traveling with two Ogier, one far larger than any Ogier ever seen and the other missing an eye, is a tell-tale sign to anyone with the brains to put it all together. We’ve found you. Come outside, so we can talk. Remain inside, and we will bring this inn down around your head and the heads of everyone staying inside. Their blood will be on YOUR hands. You have one minute.”
Ni’tareus looks at you, frowning. He instantly heads to the door and opens it. When he does, you can see faint smoke already filling the hallway. Ni’tareus looks to the left, down the length of the hallway, then turns back to you, eyes angry. “The front of the inn is on fire. They’ve done something back toward the common room. The hallway is partially collapsed that way and….I can hear people crying out.”
Kael-Tevenar- growls. “Great”
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): do i recognize this voice???? Nooooooo
You can hear them as well. A woman cries out for someone to help her. She’s apparently trapped under something and can’t get it off of her. You can faintly hear others moaning, or coughing. From back there somewhere, you hear a child crying. Something nasty has happened back at the front of the inn.
Kael-Tevenar- gathers his equipment and readies his axe and shield.
You are already out of bed and you turn to pull the curtains back slightly on your window and look outside. The street outside your room is quiet, though you can see people peeking out their own windows from the homes and businesses located across the street. Each face is painted in shock, and some of the people point. Everything on that side of the inn is bathed in the flickering light from something burning. You can only assume it is the inn.
In the street itself, you see a tall man in a brown wool coat standing with thick arms crossed, watching the inn. He sees you looking out the window and smiles. You saw this man earlier at some point in the inn, but gave him no more thought than the other people you’ve passed in the halls or the common room since you got here.
Then you notice a black clad figure standing deathly still not ten feet away from him. It’s face is drawn up inside the shadows of its cowl, but you don’t need to see his face to know who…or what…he is. The fear you feel when you look at that cowl though is enough. Fade.
Ni’tareus joins you at the window and just as you begin to comment on the man and the myrddraal standing in the street, you hear that voice again. “You have thirty seconds, woman. Come out! I will not give you another warning. That inn is coming down unless you stop it!” He yells. But it isn’t the man with the crossed arms watching the inn that’s speaking to you. The voice comes from the front side of the inn, beyond your vision.
You hear Robair Covena, the innkeeper of the River and the Rose crying out from somewhere to your right, back at the front of the inn. “PLEASE! MY LORDS! PLEASE! No more!” You see him run out into the street on your side of the inn, arms outstretched and pleading. “Please! Not my inn, my lords! I beg of you!”
The man that’s standing on your side of the inn looks over at him, then gestures to the myrddraal, who pulls a black blade and stalks over to Robair’s place in the street. Robair shrieks in fear as he realizes the creature with the black blade is a myrddraal and coming to kill him. Then his shriek is silenced with one swift stroke of the blade.
“We need to get out of the inn.” Ni’tareus says, pulling back from the window. “Stay behind me, Sochaia. We’ll take the south entrance.”
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros nods.
Kael, you feel Sochaia’s alarm and you’ve heard all of this as well. Almost as soon as the explosion erupted, you hopped up and redressed and grabbed your axe. You head out into the hallway and find Terith sneaking down the stairs from his room on the second floor. He looks angry and he’s gripping his two handaxes tightly. He’s quiet and gestures to you to be quiet as well. He creeps down the stairs as the man taunting Sochaia warns that she has 30 seconds. He stops at the door and cracks it open slightly. At that moment you can just hear a faint screaming coming from the east side of the inn, which is quickly silenced. You head toward Sochaia’s door, but just as you reach it, it opens suddenly, with Ni’tareus staring up at you in alarm and raising his sword before he realizes its you. When he does, he gives you a sharp look, then moves around you hastily. Sochaia follows. The far end of the hallway is collapsed and burning. Whatever happened to the front of the inn has sealed any escape you might have made going that way.
Terith is still standing to the side of the cracked door, looking out as each of you approach. “I see no one on this side, though I saw someone standing on the west side moments after the explosion when I looked out my window.” he says in a low whisper. “He had one of the Eyeless as a companion.”
“There’s a man and a fade on the east side as well.” Ni’tareus responds.
Terith continues to stare out the crack in the door, but he finally turns to look back. “I don’t see we have much choice. If we stay in here they’re threatening to destroy the entire inn. If we go out, they most certainly have a plan in place for dealing with us…probably no matter whether we separate and flee through windows individually or exit as a group out this door. Either way, these men seem to want Sochaia specifically. And I won’t let them have her. I say we three go out first and she follows last. We keep ourselves in between her and them. Keeper?”
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros looks at the three in front of her. “Yes, I think that’s the only way. They want me, though. I don’t want them to kill you to get to me. Be safe.”
Terith nods at Sochaia.
Terith: Kael? Are you ready?
Kael-Tevenar- nods. “Lets go.”
Terith nods again.
Terith: Give them the business end of that pretty axe.
Terith opens the door and steps out, axes clutched tightly in his hands. Kael follows, Blightslayer up and at the ready. Ni’tareus follows Kael, with his heron-marked blade drawn and ready too. Sochaia, as soon as you step forward to exit the door, you hear menacing laughter coming from up the stairs to your left, and then the doorway in front of you goes….gray as something envelops the inside of the inn. The door can no longer be seen.
Kael, you feel a spike of fear, tinged with frustration and anger come from behind you and when you look back, the doorway is solid gray and blocked. Ni’tareus also felt it and turns. Seeing the wall, he lunges at it, ramming it with his shoulder, but all that happens is Ni’tareus is knocked backward by the force of his own charge.
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros embraces the Source.
At that moment, the most glorious sound you’ve ever heard in your life enters your tufted ears. A song so beautiful, you can’t help but forget about Sochaia for the moment. Roll for initiative, then make a Will Save, DC 19.
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): It’s a TRAP!
Kael-Tevenar-: Initiative [1d20+4 = 12]
Lanndon: I will come back to you in just a sec. Gotta get Stacey through this.
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros: Will save [1d20+15 = 29]
Kael-Tevenar-: Will save 5, +10 [1d2015 = 20]
Terith: Will save +5, +10 20
Sochaia
You turn away from the gray….mass blocking the doorway. The laughter resolves into a voice coming from upstairs.
“Alone at last, my sweet.” Laen’s voice whispers from somewhere above you. It’s not loud, but it’s amplified by the One Power, so you hear every word. “I’ve come to collect you at last, Sochaia.”
Anger swells in you. Telandria and Tasalaya, “collected” by this wretch of a man, and Telandria at least, forcibly turned to the Shadow. That poor girl Jarna, raped and murdered at Laen’s hand. And the constant threats to do the same to you in the form of his “love letters”. And he’s mentioned other “pretties” that he’s taken before. He even threatened to kill a child simply because the boy hadn’t bathed recently. How many murders and rapes can be laid at this boy’s feet? He is a boy. He can’t be more than 18 years old, if he’s a day.
It doesn’t matter. You will be the last one he torments. The former tinker will die tonight. You swear it.
Saidar flows through your angreal as you begin climbing the stairs to the second floor. You won’t stay put and let him hunt you for sport. If he wants a fight, he’ll get one, and you’ll be the one to bring it to him.
You reach the second floor, and Laen speaks again, using the One Power to amplify his voice. You realize as he speaks that you can’t hear anything coming from outside. You have no idea if the man that spoke earlier is still out there, nor what your warders and Terith are doing, though you sense concern from Ni’tareus and Kael coming through the bond.
DragonSypher (Kael-Tevenar-): Go Sochaia!
“Oh how I’ve longed for this moment, Sochaia. The night I could finally make you mine.” He breathes. He is quiet for a moment as you silently make your way through the second floor, looking for a way up to the attic. He must be up there…his voice is still coming from somewhere above you and only the attic remains to be explored. The only sounds you hear are the crackling of the inn as it burns from the north side, and some kind of muffled shouting or screaming coming from somewhere in the rooms around you. Smoke is filling this hallway just as it did on the first floor, and the far end of the hallway is aflame and ends in broken shards. You can just hear someone frantically beating on a door as you pass down the hallway, but when you try to turn the handle to let the trapped individual out, the lock doesn’t move. Even a blast of air isn’t enough to budge the door. Your ring says Saidin is being channeled still, directly above you now, judging by the heat the ring is generating on your finger.
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): i may just have to beat his ass.
Laen speaks again as you give up on the door and resume searching for the way up to the attic. “My sweet? You’re very quiet. I expected to hear more from you. A squeal of terror, perhaps, or an oath of defiance. Either one would excite me very much. Squeal for me, dearest. Or tell me how much you hate me. My sweet?”
You don’t bother answering. As sick and twisted as the little pervert is, you know he really would get excited by either gesture. So you remain silent, holding your fury so you can focus, while letting the sweet flow of Saidar flood through you, calming you.
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): you’re sick, lanndon.
Lanndon: I try. Thanks :)
DragonSypher (Kael-Tevenar-): lol
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros: at least i come off somewhat tough. ish.
You poke your head at an intersection just before the hallway ends abruptly in flames. That portion of this floor has collapsed, and you couldn’t go any further even if you wanted too. Looking down the intersecting hallway, you see it ends not thirty or forty feet away in an open room with a ladder pulled down to grant access to the attic. You have no choice…you have to go up. Either that or wait for Laen to come to you. Or let the inn burn around you both first.
So you head towards the ladder, spinning Saidar to probe for wards at the hatchway. You find nothing and your probing doesn’t set any wards off either. Confident you’re safe…for the time being…you climb the ladder and find yourself in a musty, rarely used attic. The smoke is heaviest in here, as everything filtering up from below is getting trapped in the attic. Random crates, boxes, barrels and old furniture litter the attic as you scan the upstairs looking for Laen. You can see a faint bluish white light coming from around the corner, on the southern end of the attic.
Laen speaks again, almost sighing. “Yes. There you are. Much closer now. Come in, come in. Make yourself at home, first in my heart. We have a long night ahead of us.”
You pass around a stone chimney and see Laen standing at the far end of the attic, smiling and staring into what looks like a hand mirror. You realize with horror that it is the Lapis Sphere…an item Telandria found on the dreadlord Drue Raighan back on the night you first realized who and what Laen was. He lets the hand holding the Lapis Sphere fall to his side as he stares up at you through bangs that hang down in front of his face. His hair has grown since you saw him last. And he has the slightest whicker of a beard beginning to sprout around his chin.
“Ohhhh….” He sighs with delight as his eyes undress you. “You look lovely as ever, Sochaia. Perhaps moreso than when I saw you last. I’m glad that little encounter with Vandred didn’t leave you scarred. I had feared for your safety. Nice job, that. Killing him made room for me at the top. Thank you.”
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros stares at him, stoically.
Laen Avareal: Nothing to say then? Hmmm.
Laen Avareal stares at Sochaia for a moment longer.
Laen Avareal: Well then. Since I know you won’t come to me willingly, lets get this over with. I’m anxious to show you to your new home. And reintroduce you to your…sisters.
With that, Laen begins weaving his hands and an evil expression spreads across his face as he looks at you. There is something….cruel in his eyes as he stares and weaves. It sickens you.
Roll for initiative.
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros: Initiative [1d20+2 = 7]
Laen Avareal: [1d20 = 18]
Laen Avareal: 18
Laen Avareal: Initiative 7
Sandulf
Only moments ago you and Elia had been in the middle of talking with Yurian Stonebow. Just as it seemed he was ready to turn you in to the guardsmen for breaking into the estate, you spotted silvery eyes reflecting in the night through one of the windows in the hallway beyond Yurian, and then a huge, black shape launched itself through the window, landing with a snarl in the hallway. It’s eyes are locked on the three of you. From behind, more black shapes…each one the size of a small pony…jump through the windows.
Outside, you hear a loud, booming explosion erupt from somewhere back in town. For only an instant, you’re aware of Sochaia suddenly feeling alarm.
Yurian’s eyes widen when he turns to see the darkhound land, hunched down and slobbering as it gives a deep, menacing growl. It begins moving very slowly toward the three of you, continuing to growl and watch all three of you. Yurian weaves his hands and the darkhound suddenly freezes, snarling. At that moment, you hear a voice call out using the One Power to amplify it from somewhere upstairs, where you just came from.
“STONEBOOOOWWWWWW!” the voice yells. “I warned you! I gave you a chance, you coward. I gave you proof that you weren’t the Dragon Reborn. I offered you a long life, free of the Taint. I offered you protection from the White Tower! I offered you training with the One Power. I offered you power and immortality! I gave you time to consider, and that time has passed. Your time is done. It has been decreed by the great Master himself. Ishamael is convinced you are not who you think you are, and he has decided it is time you die. You will be destroyed tonight, and whatever hope you may have roused amongst the feeble masses will be destroyed with you. Now you can watch while everyone that serves you suffers because of your indecision. It isn’t just darkhounds tearing your army apart, Stonebow! There is more. MUCH MORE!”
Yurian turns, frowning, eyes drawn down in a dark scowl. “If it’s a fight you want, Renshere, then it’s a fight you WILL get.” he yells, using the One Power to amplify his own voice. “I am the Dragon Reborn, you filthy servant of the Shadow. And I will NEVER serve you or your foul master!”
The voice from upstairs laughs. “Come then, Stonebow. Time to meet your fate, you poor, pathetic fool. Consider it a mercy. At least the Taint won’t have it’s chance to consume you.”
With that, Yurian turns and spins his hands and a…window….it’s the only word you can think of to describe what you’re seeing….rips open in the air, forming from a thin, silvery line that spins before separating vertically and opening to a completely different room, somewhere else in the manor house. You’re sure it isn’t far, as the carpets and walls in the new room are the same as others you’ve seen. Yurian jumps through and before you can think to follow him, the rip in the air closes. As he passes through the gateway, you see the darkhound suddenly lurch forward, free of whatever it was that Yurian had done to restrain it.
The darkhound rushes forward, silvery spittle dripping from its jowls, intent on you now that Yurian is gone, and you notice the other darkhounds are dividing off down the other branches in the hallway. Women scream and you hear dishes clatter to the floor. You hear a man scream out in panic as well. “Darkhounds! To arms! To arms! Protect the Lord Dragon!”
Elia sprints backwards, pulling her bow.

Sandulf snarls and pulls his axe and meets the darkhound as it starts to move forward. He swings and hits the beast and it makes an unearthly growl as the blade slashes it across its front shoulder.

Two of the darkhounds sprint off to the sides and attack. You can hear a male scream out at the pain as the huge black beast ravages him. To your left, you hear a woman scream as she is tackled by another darkhound. Her screaming ends immediately as you hear flesh being ripped savagely. Several other women scream from that direction and you hear them turn to flee.

The same man that screamed the alarm when the attack first began screams again, and more flesh is ripped amidst the darkhound snarling and growling.
The final darkhound bursts through the window and begins chasing one of the women that screamed only a second ago.
One of the dragonsworn men in the other room yells at his lieutenant. “Back away Bannerman! Back away! Come in here! We can’t fight it in the halls!”
On to the battle at the Rose
GM: [1d20+15 = 33]
GM: 33
The songs of the draghkar only entrance you all momentarily. Terith snarls and rushes off to kill one of the creatures. You can see them standing in the darkness, black silhouettes with wings pulled inward to look almost like a cloak on a man. Their arms are both outstretched, with their hands making beckoning noises as they coo at your party. Terith tears off across the pathway, cursing the filthy shadowspawn.
As he runs, that’s when you notice an ordinary human male….young, perhaps in his very early twenties….dressed in a ratty coat, looking thin and frail. His eyes widen at the sight of your party and he begins yelling. “They are here! To the south! TO ME! SOUTH!” His voice is amplified with the One Power and it echoes across the backyard.
Terith ignores the man and charges the draghkar.

Kael rushes forward, ignoring the human male as he runs. When he arrives at the draghkar, one smooth slashing motion with Blightslayer is all it takes to lop the creature’s head off and send it sailing through the darkened sky. At that moment, the clouds above break just enough to reveal a full moon and let its light shine down, brightening the outside a little, at least.
Ni’tareus rushes forward, seeing that the other two are already on the draghkar. He focuses on the man screaming your location and charges. Just as he does so, Kael, you see the shadows near the small house to the south bend and warp, and a white faced myrddraal steps out of the shadows, snarling at you.

Terith yells “FADE!” as another myrddraal steps out of the shadows, just to the north of Terith’s position.
Kael-Tevenar- yells. “Another eyeless here.”

Laen weaves Saidin and Sochaia somehow manages to sense the weaving and fight it off, pressing her own will into it and pushing Laen’s shielding off. He grunts at her success, then smiles.
Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): should i be worried that lanndon’s chuckling to himself as he’s typing?
Laen Avareal: You’ve gotten stronger. It’s exciting.
Sochaia (Sochaia – Saviendha Quintaros): give me a sec. all this time i’ve wanted to fight him and now I’m coming up uncertain.

DragonSypher (Kael-Tevenar-): immolate the arrogance out of him!

DragonSypher (Kael-Tevenar-): I do hope lanndon doesnt have laen bonded to others because that would make his HP pretty nasty high. :(

Sandulf swings his axe twice and manages to carve a huge chunk of flesh out of the creature’s side and neck. It snarls at Sandulf despite the massive amount of damage it received.
You signal to Elia to head up the stairs.
Elia Savari: You better follow me, woolhead.
The bannerman backs away from the darkhounds, following the advice of his fellow soldiers.

The man weaves and attempts to release his weave, but Kael’s axe hitting him in the back interrupts the man’s concentration, and his weave is wasted. He shrieks in pain.
Laen Avareal: Your new master…the Chosen known to you as Ishamael…has given me leave to collect you. He understands how important you are to me, I think. But…he didn’t give me a lot of time, Sochaia. We need to hurry this up. Ishamael is impatient, and I am needed back in Londaren Cor.
Laen Avareal: Aren’t you from Londaren Cor? Or was it elsewhere in Eharon. Barasha, I think? No matter. If you’re a sweet thing, I’ll give you the title of queen of all of Eharon when I am finished conquering it. But if you continue to be naughty…I’ll make you a scullery maid. Laen Avareal stops laughing and stares at you evilly.

Ni’tareus uses Parting the Silk and lands two deep cuts on the darkfriend channeler. The man screams in pain and drops to his knees. His eyes are wide as he stares at the blademaster to one side and a looming Ogier on the other side. “Please! Please! I only sided with them because I didn’t want to die from the Taint.
