The party suspects that a Unicorn archer fired an arrow into Matsu Akemi’s room to send some kind of message, and had departed. This nonetheless frightens the villagers, who are terrified of possible Unicorn incursion.
Meanwhile, new PC Kakita Rozu awoke to find his master Usagi Seiiko preparing for a journey to nearby Toshi no Ranbo. She explained that the magistracy had changed hands from Daidoji Ishin, and so as vassals they needed to bear witness and swear allegiance to the new magistrate.
The traveling group of PC’s, along with Rozu and his master, arrived to a crowd at the gate leading to Toshi no Ranbo proper. The city has been closed, so the bonge are restless at being turned away. Together, the PC’s convince the guards that at the very least, samurai should be let inside, so they enter the city together.
In the city, they walk and discuss the nature of compassion. They discover that they share the same destination, and find out that Matsu Torii has taken command of the city. He presently permits the former governor, Daidoji Ishin, to commit seppuku, in which Rozu acts as second. Matsu Torii insists that the PC’s stay in the city, which will shortly come under siege from both the Crane and Lion armies.
