The characters are an investigative team that is looking into the events of Eskilon's Grand Gala, wherein a gnome named Grudge made a call for the reignition of The Last Great War which only ended a scant ten years ago. As he left, his cronies and planted gaurds attacked the attendees, and a short moment after that battle concluded, several chunks of Tiamat's Ring fell upon the earth, directly upon the lighthouse in which the Gala was taking place.
