“The Eighth Kingdom was rife with conflict for the dwarves, but also ended in a period of peace.”
-Yurin Mabir

916: For their service in the Simoom War, King Bofras grants land to General Durest Bouldershoulder and General Kiloril Trollsbane, thus founding Clan Bouldershoulder and Clan Trollsbane.

920: Prince Skargard II rises to the rank of General.

921: Prince Skargard II marries Princess Dardu. Prince Dûmithur is born.

925: Some gnomes visit Hammerstone Keep and show the dwarves a black powder that they swear will speed up their mining. King Bofras and Queen Valgal are intrigued and try it out first. They are killed in the resulting explosion. Prince Skargard II becomes King Skargard II and, in his first act as king, slays the group of gnomes. He then discovers that they had been agents sent by Clan Axesmasher to assassinate the king and queen. King Skargard II vows revenge, but first sends a group of spies to infiltrate the clan and gather intelligence.

926: King Skargard’s spies return with knowledge of Pelptin’s Warriors and Clan Axesmasher, led by Wurjyr Axesmasher (who is the only recorded leader of the clan and army). They are a renegade group of Selja and Gruffins who settled in the mountains sometime in the Fifth Kingdom and have been building their numbers until they are strong enough to take over Brokenspire Mountain, then expand outward. King Skargard II honors the leader of his spies, Captain Kez Skaggs, by raising him to the rank of General and granting him land, thus forming Clan Skaggs. King Skargard II and Queen Dardu go to war against Clan Axesmasher.

927: King Skargard and Queen Dardu die in the fourth major battle of the war, the Battle for Sand Mountain. The war eventually comes to be known as Dwarf War, and later on, Dwarf War the First. Steward McGrath rules in their stead until Prince Dûmithur comes of age.

928: Steward McGrath hammers out an uneasy truce with Clan Axesmasher. They agree to keep to their own and not kill outright kill each other unless they have good reason. Neither side is happy, but they agree that that’s what compromise is all about.

948: A pair of builders depart to help humans and riichnas work on the Great Southern Road.

984: The pair of builders returns and reports that they were harassed by officials of Kalimaar and were, at first, mistaken for halflings by said officials. Word spreads around Brokenspire Mountain and the dwarves’ disdain for the magical city grows.

999: Hammerstone alcohol reaches all corners of Vanil and is considered the best dwarven alcohol to be had. Even Selja dwarves must concede that it is better than anything that they’ve ever brewed. Demand sky-rockets and Clan Hammerstone researches ways to mass-produce its brew without sacrificing quality. The Hammerstone Brewers Guild is established.

1005: The Hammerstone Brewers Guild perfects a method of mass-production and begins shipping orders out. Dwarves all over Vanil discover drinking games.

1011: Prince Dûmrik joins the Hammerstone Brewers Guild.

1016: The Hammerstone Brewers Guild receives its first overseas order, 300 barrels of Beard-Cleaving Whiskey to be sent to Donovan Costanovi. After they ship the order, Hammerstone Keep plays host to a three-week-long bender amongst all the clans; even a handful of dwarves from Clan Axesmasher put aside their grudge for the period to take part in the festivities.

1020: For the first time in a very long time, Hammerstone Keep is once again attacked by goblinoids, orkoids, and giants. Despite little training in the art of war, King Dûmithur insists on leading the battle. As a result, Prince Dûmrik becomes King Dûmrik Beardcleaver.

1021: King Dûmrik marries Queen Olga, a Selja dwarf. Prince Odu is born.

1022: Queen Miggery leaves Brokenspire Mountain to become an adventurer.

1024: Some miners find a five-year-old human boy wandering the mines. When asked what he was doing there, he said that orcs killed his family and that his name was Gregory. King Dûmrik feels pity for the boy and takes him in as one of his own.

1026: Gregory, who shows signs of vast intelligence, masters the dwarven language.

1033: Gregory begins training with the Hammerstone Army. He proves to be an exceptional fighter.

1040: Gregory masters the Beardcleaver maneuver. He possesses the same passion that the dwarves do for battle and friendship. He becomes known as Bloody Greg, Son of Dwarves.

1042: A raiding party of orcs led by giants attacks Hammerstone Keep. Bloody Greg, Son of Dwarves fights them passionately and ferociously and takes down several giants and orcs single-handedly, but is slain in the process. The raiding party is eventually put down. King Dûmrik decrees that the Guild of Craftsdwarves and Builderdwarves will build a statue of Bloody Greg in Hammerstone Keep, which they gladly do.

1066: Prince Odu joins the Hammerstone Army.

1067: A massive infestation of undead appears at Hammerstone Keep and the surrounding lands. King Dûmrik and Queen Olga are eaten and must be slain by their former subjects. Prince Odu becomes King Odu Beardcleaver.

1074: The infestation of undead is successfully exterminated. Gyr Bloodyhammer and his crew re-killed the majority of the undead, while Yuri Shieldbreaker and his crew discovered that a necromancer was behind the infestation and killed him. For their feats, King Odu grants them land, thus establishing Clan Bloodyhammer and Clan Shieldbreaker. Now, with some free time on his hands, King Odu finds a bride with Queen Gilgal. Prince Anghred II is born.

1125: Prince Argal is born to Prince Anghred II and Princess Twella.

1129: Some dwarves of Clan Axesmasher infiltrate Hammerstone Keep and steal the statue of Bloody Greg, Son of Dwarves. Clan Hammerstone goes to war with Clan Axesmasher.

1130: While battling at Axesmasher Stronghold, King Odu and Queen Gilgal are slain. Prince Anghred II and Princess Twella become King Anghred II and Queen Twella Beardcleaver. They are slain a few days after and Steward Gristle Stubbs rules in their stead until Prince Argal comes of age.

1156: The battle with Clan Axesmasher comes to an end, and Clan Axesmasher itself nearly comes to an end, too. However, in an act of mercy, General Grizz Werrik, acting leader of the Hammerstone Army, allows a few to live and reclaims the statue of Bloody Greg. The altercation comes to be known as Dwarf War the Second. With the permission of young Prince Argal, Steward Gristle Stubbs grants land to the general, thus establishing Clan Werrik.

1175: Prince Argal becomes King Argal Beardcleaver. At his coronation feast, he meets a dwarf-lass who, when he makes lewd remarks to her, beats him up. He marries her, Queen Gilain, on the spot. Their reign ushers in a long period of peace for the dwarves of Brokenspire Mountain.

1176: Prince Anghred III is born to King Argal and Queen Gilain.

1221: Prince Anghred III joins the Hammerstone Miners Guild.

1256: Queen Gilain dies from some bad mutton. Investigations are conducted to see if there is any foul play, but there isn’t; it was just bad mutton.

1258: King Argal declares that he no longer feels at home now that Queen Gilain is dead, so he ventures off in search to find something meaningful and is never heard from again. Prince Anghred III becomes King Anghred Beardcleaver III.

1277: Prince Roth joins the Hammerstone Army.

1283: Prince Roth masters the Beardcleaver maneuver.

1291: King Anghred III receives word that the Tumish prince Vala has slain a Barkeep. He is saddened at how someone could slay such a valuable public servant.
