To make purchasing Field Ranks probable without making them too easy, the book’s ‘character driven advancement’ rules for Field Ranks are changed as follows.

• Intelligence does not apply a discount to the Time and Trust costs of learning a Field Rank; it applies to regular skill ranks as normal.
• Fast Learner does not apply a discount to the Time and Trust costs of learning a Field Rank; it applies to regular skill ranks as normal.
• Challenging checks do apply a 10% discount to the Time and Trust cost of up to three Field Ranks, and may come from any skill listed under that Field Rank.
