His momma was a whore, and his daddy was the Devil himself. Words like these surround the legend of Sid Riley, a man as wicked as they come. His arrival into the area around Delvan’s Hollow, Missouri is nothing short of the fury of Hell drug out of some godforsaken pit deep in the Ozarks.
No one knows much about Sid Riley before he became a bushwhacker. His underlings have let slip stories of raising Hell across Texas before his “dedication” to the Confederate cause. Riley himself doesn’t let much slip, and being over six feet with a proclivity for violence and murder, few people are willing to ask.
Sid Riley fell into the Bushwhacking life as the last of the Confederate regulars fled across the border into Arkansas. Reportedly, Riley was drawn into it by William Quantrill himself, giving Riley the equipment necessary to begin his own band of guerrillas. Compared to Riley, however, Quantrill was a saint. Riley’s band never stayed in one play for very long, pulling lightening raids against Union forces across the state, sowing destruction in their path. Riley’s plan of action has led them to the area around Delvan’s Hollow, Missouri, subjugating the locals, most of whom are loyal Unionists, to banditry, murder, and wanton cruelty. They control a good chunk of the roads leading to and from the small community, seemingly in wait for ambush against Union forces stationed in Providence, Missouri
