Doctrine of Unity
The Doctrine of Unity is a theological statement asserting that all deities in the world of Wu-Yu are in fact guises or emanations of five supreme deities: Thauma, Wu-Yu, Bharata, Maha-Meng, and Atmah. This doctrine allows authorities to proclaim unity in the Empire, because everyone worships the same gods. It also enables the co-opting of conquered peoples’ cultures by syncretizing them with Imperial ideology.
A curious historical byproduct of this political maneuver was the development of anthropology. Imperial theologians dutifully recorded the culture and customs of conquered peoples in order to properly apply syncretism. Thus, a great deal is known by academia about the peoples of Wu-Yu.
