Description
A quiet, terse man with an explosive temper, Cullan is known to the lords of his kingdom (either affectionately or disdainfully depending on the noble) as “Cullan the Bastard”. He rules with an even, if somewhat soft hand, relying on Andraste of Witchwood to act in his name. It’s hard to believe he was the man who started the Civil War, honestly.
He is more tolerant than most of both half-breeds and mages, possibly to subtly undermine the Church to secure his own power. Cullan is a rational, well educated man but not one so strongly in love with his principles that he won’t do what’s politically to his advantage.
Bio
Half brother of the former King, Cullan grew up as the royal bastard and was generally mocked for most of his life. He took the opportunity to study extensively, unhindered by the need for appearances. His father never recognized him, but when his brother died “mysteriously” in a battle against some of the other Kingdoms, Cullan seized his opportunity.
Making war against his father’s wife, Queen Mathilde, Cullan gathered support and made his bid for the throne, crowning himself King at Ystheon. While his initial attempt was successful in seizing the capital and the heartlands, he hadn’t managed to stop Mathilde. She took refuge in the Rhimghast and conquered the whole of the north, fighting him to a standstill.
By some fluke grace of fate, Andraste of Witchwood was delivered to his hands and he made the best of her gift. Currently he rules over a unified Rhomeryn, and has reopened talks with the northern kingdom. His son Riain was engaged to marry one of the daughters of a Low King, Alianna Valenn.
