Aedar was found at a young age by Jaern Northwood, his surrogate father, during a raid into the Moon Wood. As a cleric of Selune, Jaern vowed to raise Aedar and teach him to control his beastial urges.
Jaern operated a small, satellite temple of Selune in Jalanthar, a small village located on the trail between Everlund and Sundabar. Jalanthar lies on the River Rauvin, beneath the Nether Mountains, and is home to a tightly bound community of trappers and guides to the interior. Aedar’s feral nature and inclusion within Jalanthar’s ranger community provided a natural avenue of training for the maturing half-breed. Jaern provided the guidance of Selune while Aedar learned the trade of a woodland guide.
Around the age of sixteen, a falling-out with Jaern propelled Aedar to leave for Icewind Dale in search of the Silverstar Priest of Selune, Theillana, in hopes of learning the truth of his heritage. Aedar’s skills served him well in his journey, but he was rejected entry into the temple of Selune. After much persistence Aedar was awarded an audience. Theillana had been present in the Moon Wood raid, but Aedar was refused his answers. Enraged by her silence, Aedar persisted still and remained on the steps of the temple without food or water for days. Theillana saw this and struck a bargin with Aedar. If Aedar completed a four-year term protecting the Ulutiun people in the Sea of Moving Ice, she would answer his questions.
