Travner was a human rogue who operated in the outskirts of Durden, having spent the majority of his life penniless and only able to rely on his fighting skills to stay alive
When Aras, Fiva, and Selea were traveling through the area in the aftermath of Campaign 3, they came across both Travner and Gragus, those two having been captured by a band of Dakans that Aras and his companions defeated. It was Travner that informed Aras of the Lone Mountain, stating it was there that the Black Legion hoped to find an artifact of great importance. After Adgar had confirmed what Travner had told him, Aras and his band decided to head to the Lone Mountain in order to intercept the Legion. Travner decided to accompany them, hoping that there would be other treasures worth the quest.
Inside the dungeon within the Lone Mountain, Travner switched alliances after the party encountered the head sorcerer of the Legion, revealing that he had purposely accompanied them in order to lead them into an ambush. During the battle that ensued Travner killed his traveling companion Gragus and severely wounded Adgar, fleeing further into the dungeon as the Legion withdrew in order to open a portal to the Shadows. Before doing so, he also managed to give the sorcerer enough time to capture Soli, the fire sprite that had accompanied the party.
Enraged with the death of Gragus and the capture of Soli, Aras and Fiva continued on after the Legion and Travner into the dungeon, as Selea and Wekus stayed back in order to help the badly wounded Adgar.
Travner decided to battle against Aras one last time after he and Fiva had come across the Legion in the grand hall of the ruins. It proved to be fatal, as though he had wounded Aras in this final duel, Aras struck him down in the middle of his rage.
