A Time for Pattern

Saphric

Son of Pyris

Saphric

Description

Short dark hair from his father, dark blue eyes from his mother. About 5’9", broad shoulders, muscular form. Saphric is not completely like his father in that he doesn’t practice magic for strictly arcane purposes. Even though he knows he and others like him are capable of healing rapidly it does not hurt to be able to speed up the process a bit more. Besides, who is to say something couldn’t heal improperly? That is why he uses his magic to better heal those who need it. He thinks being fit and taking care of the body is of utmost importance and therefore exercises and works on his body regularly. The personality traits he does get from his father are those that allow one to get things done. Though he cares mostly for the well-being of others, he is not above breaking down a door to get where he needs to get to, demolishing a weapon being used against him, torturing another for information he needs, or even killing someone who’s death would make the world a better or easier place to live in.

His colors are yellow and black, usually wearing the yellow as some sort of detail such as jewelry, stitching, or as much as a single stripe going down the arm.

Letters to Desary

Immediate Family

Pyris op

Saphric never did get to see his busy father all that much as was mostly raised by his mother in the Courts of Chaos and various shadows. He did see his father on occasion, as Pyris was not the kind to have a kid and not follow up. Enemies are best made by blood you know. So Klarin ventured out and stayed on another shadow that Pyris liked to frequent, keeping them away from those people he was always training. Saphric did visit Crysta a couple times before it was destroyed by something called the Nethadis, but he was far too young to remember it. Instead he recalls a shadow with a beach by an ocean and a large house. This was where he typically visited Pyris and stayed with him when Pyris took care of him.

Klarin op

His mother was nurturing but at the same time tough. She demanded a lot and expected her son to excel. She comes from the House of Telior, a rather low house in the hierarchy of Chaos. The family at one time used to worship Gerard, not for brute strength but for wellness of the body. The Telior house was very big on maintaining the body, so Saphric grew up eating very little junk food and a great deal of healthy but hardy meals.

Those who know Pyris very well may know that he is 1/4 dragon as his father was half-dragon which is why his eyes glow when he gets particularly emotional. However it would seem that being 1/8th with such strong bloodlines as Amberites and Chaosites, Saphric has no unique qualities like his father.

Schooling and Training

Once he had a general high school degree, Saphric went off to learn as much about medicine as he could, starting with the finest schools on the Shadow Earth made so popular by the elders. After mastering medicine there he went to learn what he could in the Courts of Chaos, followed by various other shadows, expanding his field of knowledge to be able to treat as many types of humans as possible, no matter if they’re shape shifters or not. To his knowledge, Saphric has never worked on a family member, but would not be surprised that after he got his massage therapy degree, his aunt Flora had learned some shapeshifting from Reginald and paid him a visit in disguise.

Occasionally Saphric would take breaks from the tedious studying and just go out and have some fun or work on training himself. For the most part he would go to a gym or dojo to work out and learn what he could about fighting that he could not in the Courts of Chaos. He acquired several black belts and has won a couple junior boxing championships, though he never entered the big leagues due to the time it would consume. When not dealing with medicine or martial arts he instead goes to a log cabin in some mountains on a strange shadow where he can just relax. He has never invited anyone there.

Friends

Lately, Saphric has been very busy trying to finish up his schooling goals, and has not visited Amber nor the Courts in quite some time. He has been made aware of the crisis in Amber but does not really keep tabs on anyone from either side of Shadow except for Desaray, Eliora’s daughter. He writes letters to her on a regular basis as they grew up together, in a matter of speaking. He was already over 30 by the time she was born but to an Amberite or Chaosite that’s still a child. Once she was old enough to have some things in common with Saphric the two of them trained, learned, and explored shadow with each other, as well as encouraged each other to walk the Logrus. He probably would not have decided to walk it if not for her. He has not heard a response from Desaray in a very long time, but he hasn’t worried about it due to the strange time flow in Chaos.

Recent History

Saphric has been trying to finish up his schooling in shadow and now has over 30 medical degree and has mastered a handful of them. He has spent most of his time on or near shadow Earth and has been working at a local hospital to pay for school, as he wants to actually use his skills rather than just Pattern up money when he needs it. He is very popular, especially with the nurses, at this hospital, partially due to his practicing his massage therapy while on the clock.

Strange events have been happening on the shadow he’s on but Saphric has not really gotten very interested in it. He thinks it’s perhaps an alien invasion and is mostly concerned about if he’s going to still be able to go to Asia to learn some new medical techniques there.

It looks unlikely that he will be able to go to Asia however, not due to the alien invasion, but because he recently received a letter from the Courts of Amber and the court lawyer mentioning a law suit against him and a hearing. The semester is over for him anyway, so he plans to hang out on this shadow a bit longer and make his way to Bill Roth’s office a few days in advance.

Gingy

Gingy

Gingy is a small shocker lizard that usually lives in an inside pocket in the back of Saphric’s coat. It has a extra dimension just like Pyris’s pocket for Singe so he doesn’t get squished when Saphric sits or leans back against something. Gingy was a gift from Jessith Griffith of Amber when she grew fond of him, which was about 4 seconds after they met for the first time after the Nethadis fiasco. He is intelligent enough to speak but usually keeps quiet, and really only comes out when needed or curious about what’s going on. His special talent is being able to create a jolt of electricity that will provide a shock equal to most defibrillators, therefore, Saphric sometimes uses him as one when needed. Gingy is also smart and tough enough to be capable of fending for himself when need be, slipping out of Saphric’s coat pocket and finding food when Saphric is unable or forgets to feed him, coming back usually before Saphric wakes up. In the event that Saphric leaves for some reason before Gingy returns, Gingy does have limited ability to travel through shadow and find him. Gingy is mostly blue with some green and black, sometimes thought of cute and adorable by girls and reptile obsessed boys, once so far even being used to keep someone calm through a very stressful situation. Gingy is kind, mild, and mostly stays out of the way. If ever caught up in combat, he has the training to get away from the threat as quickly and efficiently as possible. He is not very capable of attacking and Saphric never uses him to do so except in the most desperate circumstances where his shocking ability might work. Otherwise, Gingy is a timid little creature that keeps to himself.
