Abandoned as an infant on the steps of Trimendir’s Temple to Avandra, Loghaine was raised by the clergy. He was a cheerful and outgoing child, assisting the temple’s priests and occasionally working at the Wanderer’s Safehouse. When he finally learned of his abandonment, Loghaine took it in stride; he considered the priests of the temple and the people of Trimendir to be his true family.
At the age of 10, Loghaine began teaching himself swordsmanship. Though he felt no attachment to the family that left him behind, he wanted to be able to protect others who had been left behind or forgotten. As he grew older, he learned some swordplay from the town guard and the rogue elf Brynlynn, who had been staying at the temple. He learned to channel Avandra’s power from the clerics of the temple and was able to apply it to his weapon.
Upon facing his father in Tartarus, Loghaine was tempted to let him complete his plan. Charles’s goals were very similar to Loghaine’s own. However, he believed the Void Snake was too dangerous to let live, especially when its powers were in the hands of a single person (and that Charles still needed to answer for his horrendous crimes). Having slain the Void Snake and his father and no longer having a family to return to, Loghaine has resolved to free Ahtrud’s soul from Hell. Once this task is complete, he plans on reestablishing the Nightmare Cavalry and working with Grandis to bring down the Raven Queen (and possibly establish himself as the new god of death). Loghaine’s ultimate goal is to see the world free of the shackles of fate, where everyone is able to forge their own destiny. Unlike his father, however, he is not willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve this goal.
