Exalted is a game of epic fantasy set during the Second Age of Man, a time before our own. It is an age of magic and adventure, when heroes of legend are reborn into a time of woe.
Characters will start as Heroic Mortal soldiers participating in the Wyld Hunt. The ending of the campaign is where the story begins, and one player will function as the betrayer described in the epilogue. The goal of the betrayer will be to drive the party toward the epilogue, while the rest of the party works to prevent it from happening.
We will spend a bit of time pre-exaltation, but players should have their post-exaltation personas ready or mostly ready to go. The goal of this is to get the newbies used to the system and setting, as well as to provide a counter-point to how truly powerful even newly exalted folks are. Abyssal, Lunar, Solar, and Sidereal exalts are all welcome, but please consult with me before choosing something non-Solar. This is mainly to make sure you don’t end up gimping yourself – Solars are easy to make well-rounded, but the other exalts tend to need to specialize. Abyssals are Solar equivalents, but have their own set of problems.
I realize that we’re all busy people, so I’m not going to require backgrounds – they can be established as we play. If you want to provide a background, that’s awesome, and I’ll probably throw you a few extra bonus points in exchange. I’m going to run this game in sort of a participatory style, where I might do something like:
“You walk into the city – it’s absolutely bursting with people. There are vendor stalls down the entire street, selling just about anything you could want. There’s a strong smell of spice in the air, and you can’t help but think of curries and teas and the delicacies that go with them. Tim, what else does your character see?”
“Um, my Lunar sees a huge spire in the distance. Even from here, I can feel the large amount of essence coming from it.”
It will help fill in the world, and give color that I wouldn’t be able to provide.
