Ja’Im was born and raised to merchant parents in the Silt Archipelago. He and his closest friend, a half-giant named Amyntor, grew up enjoying the freedom offered there. However, once Ja’Im’s psionic abilities began to manifest his community became fearful that he was secretly learning defiling magic. His parents were persecuted and ostracized from the community. In an effort to regain status, his parents formulated a plan to have their son killed in an ‘accident’ at sea. Amyntor found out about the plan and went to sea himself, boarding the skimmer and killing the mercenaries before they could kill Ja’Im. Amyntor and Ja’Im gave their emotional goodbyes, knowing they may never see each other again. Amyntor took his vessel back to the Archipelago and Ja’Im took the skimmer out to sea.
Ja’Im was soon spotted by raiders who damaged his skimmer. He took refuge in the Mountains of the Sun. After scavenging the parts he needed to repair the skimmer he set off again, injured and dying of thirst. The sun took him and he started to slide in and out of consciousness, he felt himself going mad. That is until he met an old man who gave him water, cured his wounds and told him to find a dwarf named Salvatus in Balic. The old man disappeared into the Silt and Ja’Im had a goal.
Ja’Im made his way to Balic and found Salvatus who ran a monestary and trained Ja’Im to focus his psionic ability and become a monk. Toward the end of his training Ja’Im and Salvatus were walking from one of the theaters in Balic when Salvatus was approached by a group of Praetors. They claimed that Salvatus was a member of the Veiled Alliance. Salvatus denied the claims, but the Praetors claimed they had proof. Salvatus told Ja’Im to leave and Salvatus launched into an attack on the Praetors. Ja’Im made his way back to the monestary and awaited the return of his master. Salvatus did not return to the monestary. Ja’Im felt ashamed that he did not fight with Salvatus and left the monestary and Balic, wandering Athas searching for friends to assist him when the time comes and – water. He vowed that when he gained enough power he would avenge Salvatus by killing Andropinis and all the Praetors he could.
