Alice Stillman is a kind older widow who is one of the primary caregivers of the children of Snyder Farms. She is the community grandmother. A retired schoolteacher, she supervises the community’s home school co-operative. Her husband died in 2010.

Alice is suffering from lymphoma. She figures that, in this new world without advanced cancer treatments available, she has maybe 6 months to a year to live, at most, if the virus doesn’t get her first.
