a stick for hurling at game
The throwing stick is a hunting weapon. It has many forms. It is shorter than the length of an arm and has a weighted end. It may be shaped to be slightly flat. A slight bend to the shape is also common. It could do damage to another human being but as a thrown weapon, its damage at range is limited.
(The Hope still use this today and it is called a rabbit stick, a name that is commonly used by modern primitivists.)
The throwing stick doubles as a small hand club to put trapped and snared animals out of their misery.
(For our internal reference:)
The returning boomerang is an especially sophisticated throwing stick. By adding a bend to one trailing edge, it flies in a roughly triangular loop.
Found shortly before March 2011, these are underwater artifacts. The top one is probably a rabbit stick.
