Morhrívë Helraumo
I am the steel. I am the ice.
Description
Bio
Some dreams are made of gossamer and warmth — others are made of steel and ice. I am the steel. I am the ice.
In the spring breeze, the flowers blossom and the leaves grow. Then comes the winter frost, and the flowers die and the leaves wither. This is the judgement of nature. All things end.
All things end — even winter.
Morhrívë the Marquis of Blackwinter was once a Lord of the Winter Court and a feared Unseelie cavalier. He fought the Seelie Court long ago at the battle of Mag Tuireadh, and there he was dubbed Morhrívë Helraumo, the Icestorm of Blackwinter. It was said the only thing colder than the steel of his blade was the ice of his heart.
But all things end — even winter.
Beneath the falling leaves of the Autumn Court, when the rule of the Dawn Prince passed again to the Unseelie Court as it had since time immemorial, Morhrívë Helraumo found something to thaw even his dead heart — Kraehe, the Autumn Princess. With hair of raven-black and eyes the color of onyx, she stole his heart and his blade. Forsaking the Unseelie, he swore his sword to the princess and shed a thousand years of darkness.
Some called him traitor, and other names less kind, but the Autumn Princess never spurned his oath or his devotion. Time and again he proved his honor and valor against his former kin, and in time he was granted a lordship and a measure of trust among the Seelie. He became an ambassador to the men of Earth, a sign to them that even the coldest heart might be redeemed.
But the hearts of men were cold indeed, one by one the doors of the fae were closed. When the last wizard died and the last door closed, Morhrívë left the place called Earth, never to return.
But all things end — even winter.
Then Emerald Star, called Elenin by men, had carved its chaos across the sky, and the hearts and eyes of men were opened again. Slowly, the doors began to open, if only just a crack. Then, in the darkness, Princess Kraehe saw something no fae had ever thought to see again. A wizard had been born. She began to reach through the doors, to pass messages and knowledge, hoping than one day the wizard-born might open a door fully.
He did, and the fae chose once again to send an ambassador to men, one that might guide the fledgeling wizard and show men that even in an age of darkness there was hope, that even the coldest heart might be redeemed, and that all things end — even winter. So, Morhrívë Helraumo was sent on one last quest, bearing two of the great God-Treasures of the Sidhe. One was Aiglos, the Snow Thorn, his to wield against the Unseelie who had also discovered the opening of the doors. The other was Valacirca, the Sickle of Heaven, a gift to the young wizard.
All things end — even winter.
