The original Grapes was recovered by a Time Lord known as the Maker. In an attempt to fix him, she instead fried his neural relays. He now “suffers” from a major personality disorder, causing him to have an intense love for the fruit, grapes.

Grapes was originally designed in the 51st century as a Type III Arachno Medbot assigned to a hospital class ship that was heavily infected by the Vashta Narada (it’s guessed the vast stores of bandages on board contained high amounts of Vashta Narada spores).

Grapes has been upgraded (and destroyed) numerous times. Each one has been slightly different and unique along the way. One even had rudimentary TARDIS capabilities! Another (Mk. III) had a serious personality flaw that caused him to try and conquer several star systems. However, all Grape models have been more or less the same robot at their core.

Grapes’s snarkyness has been a trait of the most recent model. Grapes’s condescending attitude, thought annoying to all he travels with, pales in comparison to his knowledge of the universe, making him an important asset to the TARDIS crew.
