Bio

Vanth is a study in dichotomy . HIs childhood seemed idyllic from an outside perspective , being raised as he was in an insular and nurturing tribe of wild elves deep in the elven woods . He grew to manhood under the close tutulage of his father , a master ranger and woodsman . His mother a respected midwife and healer in the tribe also taught him well . He ranged for many years with his tribe , due to his fathers distant nature and his own painfully underdeveloped social skills he became introverted and quiet . His mother sought often to mitigate this but was unable to counteract the growing distance between Vanth and his fellow elves .

A horrific set of circumstances set him down an irrevocable path of shadow and loss , he discovered a small group of Gnolls raiding outlying elven settlements . These particular gnolls had a terrible lust for elven flesh , particulary children . He hunted them for months , and finally pursued them into a series of deep caverns in a mountain range at the edges of his domain . As he chased them through the darkness and felled them one by one something that would change his life forever occured . The darkness itself came to life and took him . Pouring in through his mouth , ears and eyes . How long he lay unconcious fighting the corrupting influence of the primal being that invaded him he will never know . He awoke sickened and forever changed . Marked by shadowy veins beneath his skin . An evil and seductive voice plagued him as he all but crawled back to his people to report his victory …only to find that his own tribe , the people he loved dearest rejected him on the words of the tribal chieftan who claimed Vanth was tainted with the mark of evil and would bring harm to the tribe .

Vanth tried desperately to redeem himself to his people , but in the end even his family rejected him . Despondant and wanting only the release of death Vanth wandered into the wastes to end his suffering . It was there he met ebonfoe , his scorpion sister . It was in the heart of the desert that a change occured in him and the first Scorpion Wraith was born to this world .His wandering in the waste brought him to a ruined and ancient tower , following the sibilant whispers in his head he found the dessicated corpse of an long since passed mage of surpassing power . On the mages finger he found a black , cold metal band which he felt compelled to place on his finger . the cursed band further drew him into shadow and eventually changed one of his blades …this blade would become his most potent weapon , The Shadow Lords Sting .

It was not long before his strength gave out in the waste and he was found by wandering slavers , it was here in a slave camp that Vanth met the two people who would mold him into the enigmatic hero he is today , Edrich and Serris . After a bold escape he returned with the pair to Iridia where he spent years learning from them and coming to accept his own nature and place in this world .As he accepted his lot he began to change , he no longer wasted energy with loud speech , or wasted movement . He conserved all energy for things that mattered and became more and more like the scorpion he befriended . His uncanny personal habits though offputting at first were enventually accepted by the goodly folk of Iridia and he became well accepted by the folks who lived there and loved dearly by Edrichs daughter ….he came to hold one of the most important titles he has ever been given through this relationship , Uncle Vanth .

His need to do something meaningful cumlminated in his choice to leave Iridia and join with the Iron Army where he now serves as a scout and elite killer for Reynard Thames , whom he considers his new chieftan .
