Melite

Melite is a starport city with all the benifits and problems that come along with any major trade hub. Some of the locals affectionately call it the City of Malice. Melite is located on the Planet Malta, named for the island nation. Malta is too far from the hub of the galaxy to rate first class service meaning a lot of local officials pad their retirement funds dealing with organized crime, corporations, and embargoed alien governments.

Melite is the largest city on the planet and the only one with an interstellar class starport open to the public. Occasional alien or rebel incursions reach Melite, but the average person in the city is more concerned about being attacked by their fellow citizens than by hostile forces from space or over the mountains.

Malta was home to a diverse population when it was discovered many years ago. It became one of the main gateway planets into the Aesad Aerap sector taking the primary entry point away from Neipas and Sudem. The forces involved in The Galactic Civil war have only a minor presence on Malta. The Embassies of The Empire and The Republic are well separated which keeps down the violence between them.

The interaction with Malta and the other magic using planets has altered the view of the force and what it can be used for. A millenia of separation between the philosophies of the Jedi and Sith have matured a magic almost devoid of the commonly accepted standards. The local use of magic and some experiments with hyperdrive technology have resulted in at least passing acceptance of life in other dimensions. Several residents of Malta can trace their ancestry to some extraplanar origin.
