Courts and Fields of Rokugan

As a young Samurai or Shugenja (or perhaps something else?), you have been charged with your head-of-family to venture forth, and create a new village for the prosperity of the Family, the Clan, and to the Empire. A site has been chosen for you, basic accommodations have already been constructed, and your peasant workers are ready for your orders. You had best not disappoint…

Set in the Japanese-esque world of Rokugan, filled with Samurai, Shugenja(sort of like divine sorcerers), and ninjas. Gone are the western notions of Lawful/Chaotic/Good/Evil, here there are the Honorable and the Dishonorable. Honor is everything to the noble class. With Honor comes fame, riches, respect… with Dishonor comes death.

The PC’s are tasked by their lord to build a village to expand the wealth of the Clan, and by extension the Empire. The location chosen is rich in various resources (which may depend on the Clan chosen). During the game, PC’s will have to deal with resource management(peasants are included in this category), raids by barbaric forces, assassins from jealous rivals, and Ronin wandering through their territory(which may, or may not, be disruptive). And those are the easy problems. They will also be expected to conduct themselves accordingly during various courtly gatherings, earning respect and honor for their families in non-combative ways. There are many who prefer serving on the Kaiu Wall to dealing with the ferocious battles in the Court.

Play may take place over several (in-game) years. Each session will constitute one Rokugan month. Players will have the time to direct their peasants (telling them what to build, and where), and will deal with the highlights of that month (such as the problems mentioned in the previous paragraph).

Welcome to Rokugan!
