Delta Green

-Is an international government taskforce funded by NATO under the guise of identifying terrorist groups; in actuality, Delta Green investigates paranormal and supernatural events. It does not have police or military powers; instead its official powers (among member nations) are investigative

-The taskforce is based in San Francisco, California

-It came into existence in 2010 through the approval of Anders Fogh Rasmussen (NATO Secretary General) with the understanding that it was being pushed by then CIA head Leon Panetta

-Lieutenant Colonel John Black (45), heads Delta Green; he spent 25 years in the CIA (with the National Clandestine Service (NCS)) and has been rewarded with command of the taskforce; he was crippled in Afghanistan by an IED while in action and is now confined to a wheelchair (paralysed from the waist down); he smokes like a chimney (favouring cigars) and is African-American; he began his career as a private before being recruited by the CIA and besides work in Afghanistan you know he served in the first Iraq War (1991) and in the Yugoslavian civil war (1995).

-Black is highly respected, but most believe he’s gone off his rocker; “eccentric” is the polite term, “crazy” is what most say behind his back. Black began to push Delta Green after he had a vision (see below) that has made him believe that there are dangerous powers in the world that threaten the existence of mankind. “Terrorism” is the cover used to fund his project, but his CIA buddies who helped create the taskforce are aware of its true purpose. The project was given the green light as a reward to Black for his long years of service.

-Delta Green is not a prestigious post and has been used by NATO as a dumping ground for its malcontents and free spirits. The taskforce’s funding is limited and while NATO countries offer limited cooperation the group does not have carte blanche powers to do whatever they like to accomplish their goals

It is the summer of 2012 (now) and you are a recent recruit or transfer into the taskforce. Three months ago John Black swept his small organisation clean because he was sick of babysitting malcontents and decided to recruit those who would take his mission seriously. He believes you are one of those people.

John Black’s Transformative Experience

You all know the story of John Black’s transformation into an occult believer. He was serving in Afghanistan in 2009 and was heading a special ops group in Pushtan territory. The location of his base was discovered by Taliban forces and Black was forced to retreat into the wilderness to avoid capture. He was lost for weeks and during that time had a vision which he believes to be of the future: a blackened and burned world ruled by gigantic monstrosities who keep the few humans in pens like animals for food.
