Baphomet was one of three greater demons what dwelled within the Hunting Grounds far longer then any others save for some of the most ancient deities and spirits. Baphomet came to our world in the middle east, as the Crusades where just at the beginning. Throughout the wars, the demon worked its evil over important minds, dominating them into turning the tides of the conflict from peace to war. The most difficult of its opponents were the Knights Templars, who had started researching and gaining the knowledge to defeat it. Baphomet used its powers to influence the church into condemning the Templars and destroying the order. Several of the members who survived the sacking of the Templars’ stronghold confronted and trapped the demon. These remaining Templars guarded the vessel in which Baphomet was contained for many years, all the while being hunted and persecuted by the church. Finally they passed on the relic to their kin, and so forth, until the last of their line brought the vessel to the New World and immediately trekked out West, despite the dangers. He arrived in a far off valley, and in a deep cave hid the relic before perishing. Baphomet slept, confined and unable to act on the world. As the world aged on, and events brought things closer to the Last War, the relic was losing its power to contain the monster. As the bombs fell and the Reckoners came forth into the terrorformed world they had wrought, the Relic failed to contain the demon and Baphomet was able to return. His spirit was able to form itself a adequate but fragile body. After the many years of imprisonment, his spirit was still potent, but his body was wasted. Baphomet also found that the relic continued to have an affect on him, binding him to the cave. Angered the demon sought out victims for his dominion. He found a nearby group of survivalist and slowly started to dominate them, flexing his powers. Finally his power extended out to Boise, and garnered the attention of Simon Mercer, the man destined to be the first of a new breed of Templar. Simon hunted Baphomet down, and in a terrible battle in which Simon willingly slaughtered a young woman to get to the monster, Baphomet’s body was shattered. Baphomet was defeated and Simon returned to Boise to start the Templar Order once more. Then came several mysterious deaths in Boise, attributed to what people called the Boise Horror. At first it seemed that a well armed posse from the town killed the Horror, a hideous amalgamation of Werewolf and Vampire known as a Bloodwolf, but soon after another death occurred, and the next month one more. So the Boise Horror was still active, and once per month it took a life. While not the most active of abominations, its presence at the seat of the Templar’s power started to wear their credibility somewhat. As time went on Simon started to become chronically ill, his condition unknown and getting slowly worse. Finally Simon was to be a part of a great summit to forge an alliance of all the “good” factions in the Wasted West to combat, primarily, the Combine. The murders followed.. the Horror was following Simon. The posse was along as his escorts and were coming to many theories about what was the Boise Horror. In the end their fears were realized… Baphomet was the Boise Horror, and worse off he had been hiding inside Simon’s soul. Simon was able to summon up the will to trap the demon in his body. The posse, in a bloody and fierce battle were able to claim victory over the monster, killing Baphomet and freeing Simon’s spirit from torment. At long last Baphomet joined his demonic “brother” Niknevin in oblivion, leaving but one last of the ancient greater demons… Karesha, the demon of corruption… and the one the posse knows as the Incubus.
