Glenn Danzig, Kitee Arken, and 3 other adventurers (Zangeon Quickleap, Syrrak Tenbolt, Magatra Bathor) embarked on a quest to destroy, or at least hallow a temple to Xoveron, The Horned Prince, Lord of Gargoyles and Ruins. They were successful in that they destroyed the temple. However, unbeknownst to the adventurers, Xoveron got a last chuckle in and cursed the lot of them. The curse upon Kitee was to fall in love with a boring, stuffy, lawful paladin (Glenn Danzig). Glenn’s seed was corrupted, so that his next progeny would grow up to be cursed. The fate of the other three is not known.
After 5 years of courting, the beautiful Kitee convinced Glenn that it was perfectly acceptable for paladins to mate, citing some well known yet less reputable paladins, and forging letters from some of the purist paladins. The eventual result of this coupling would produce the cursed child, Jayce Danzig.
The emergence of poor, cursed Jayce made Glenn question the wiseness of his actions. He grew distant, and apologetic to his god and sought to absolve himself of his sins. The spell upon Kitee was broken at this point, and she did what any normal mother would do: stick it out for a while and raise the kid, then get a divorce.
Unfortunately, it takes a while for Aasimar to reach adult hood. (Thank god for monastaries.)
Childhood for Jayce was distressful, but tempering. Activities taken for granted by any other child were robbed of joy for the unfortunate child. Toys broke in his grasp and balls exploded into stuffing when kicked (shut up Terri). Bows broke before releasing the arrow and boughs broke before he climbed 10 feet off the ground. Book bindings gave way and spilled pages onto the desk and the floor.
But all was not lost, for his parents loved him, and they nurtured his innate talents. His mother guided him in developing his magical talents, and his father taught him about the importantce of being a stuffy, boring lawful paladin.
Having felt they taught Jayce all that they could, and not knowing what to do with his curse, Jayce’s parents arranged for him to move to a monastary.
Summary of rest of background: some priest etc helps jayce study his ailment, jayce finds out he is pretty good at smashing rocks and orcs with hammers, i find out a constructive use for jayce’s charisma, and jayce leaves the monastary when he becomes an adult and that is where his story begins in earnest – the end.
