She was born inauspiciously in Resplendent Wood RY 740 to the Founder of the Lei Fung Dynasty in the Capital city of Azure. Arms and the slave labor to maintain such production are the backbone of an empire the afforded her every luxury she could imagine. Born a natural beauty with tawny alabaster skin, amber eyes she was A curious child reading insatiably and she excelled in all of her regards save one, Authority.
Her father, the captain of the coastal caravan that ran the circuit from wavecrest to the great cities of the south once a season, was a magnificent man who was loving and honest. His absence left a hole in her that seemed as if nothing could fill. She thought it was merely the change from child to young woman that brought such thoughts or so her mother insisted.
The Lady Fung Grand Arbiter of Disputes was a powerfully beautiful young woman of only 22yrs when the child was brought forth. And by the time for the child’s schooling she had wrestled control of the land-based operations of her husband’s empire from his 1st and 3rd wives. She knew the caravan and the sea would be inherited by the firstborn son of his first wife as was custom but she would insure that the rest would be tended by her most perfect daughter The Divine Princess Mai Lin Fung.
Each night from birth her mother whispered the secrets that had brought her from a beautiful maiden to the powerful goddess of sorts she had become. Secret wisdom – “ if someone shows you who they really are, BELIEVE THEM.” Or “ A true woman is like the Sea. The waves quietly crash upon the shore until it is broken and submits.” Schemes of intrigue and social maneuvering, and of course the supreme art of exploiting weakness. The child could have been a queen frightening and beautiful but such was not her destiny.
She fought her mother as most adolescent girls do and spirited away at night to raunchy plays, lively debates, and concerts from the West’s greatest singers. It was on one such night that she met Her – The GRAND EXEMPLAR LADY Sande’. She wielded a Wonder and commanded all as thralls and was a spectacle the likes our girl had never seen. Her mind blown and her escape noticed she fled but the seed had taken hold after it was planted that night.
She turned her attention to dance in all its forms to accompany her already pleasant singing and hoped to be free and wild like her goddess Sande’. But Mother knows best. Seeing the truth in her daughter’s desire and remembering that she too at one time hoped for stardom and adventure she let her daughter go to explore the city as she pleased performing and entertaining, in jest of course.
She wore the emblems of her house, was wisely never accosted, and generously tipped. Though she was quite talented it soon became apparent that they gave not out of respect for her craft but fear of her name. 17 and enraged at such machinations of her master manipulator mother she confronts the would-be puppet master, “ as long as you are my daughter you WILL be treated as such.” The little Princess advises, “ then as soon as occasion gives rise to opportunity I will no longer be your daughter.”
Just such opportunity arose on the rare occasion her father was home for the calibration feasts,“ Shu Ba sends his regards Mother” the trap laid, “ Why does that arrogant fool break word of you to our daughter?” Father looks up from his star charts and dinner, “ it was the riveting performance last moon night. He also asks the secret of such perfect skin he hopes to give it to 2nd wife. He of course wanted me to note that she could never compare to a goddess such as you.” The bait taken. a simple retort about the ridiculousness of youth would have easily unwoven the young starlet’s yarn if it had not been in fact the truth or worse yet if it had not been a public secret.
That was all it took for the illustrious commodore to take sword in hand to both chastise mother and seek infidel. Mother tries to dissuade him as do advisors, servants, and lieutenants as her ploy took its course as predicted. She took her leave in the midst of the commotion after grabbing artifacts and a small fortune in jewels and set off to catch up with her Goddess/muse’s tour as it was set to leave the west.
With exquisite clothing and great talent she made safe passage to great forks where a huge festival was to culminate with a concert one that would change her life forever. Time and Fate brought her to Riddleport in search of the Tour and Fortune.
