Earthdawn - Who Really Kaers?

Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.

So, it’s a funny story really. There I was standing on the street corner when I was approached by an old lady. At first I thought she might be interested in the fine assortment of watches and trinkets on the table in front of me but no. She had these two Earthdawn books in PDF form! I was able to trade her a cheap Rolex knockoff for the files. So if you want them, the Player’s Companion and Name-Giver Compendium, then you can go to the link below. :)

Holy Crap! I have not been playing this Obsidman like a true Obsidiman. My history is all kinds of screwed up….OR something has happened to my LifeRock. That Name-Giver guide is awesome!

How do you mean? I’m curious. I may have all the books but I definitely have not read all of them or been up-to-date on all of that stuff.

Well, 1) an Obsidiman emerges as a shell and then goes to his LifeRock for 100 years in which he is taught all of the knowledge of his Elders. The stories and information they have gained or had passed on to them. Then after their Awakening, they spend 20 years with two or three of their Brotherhood out in the world, learning and associating everything they learned after Emerging. Then, they all return to their LifeRock and he is given a Name at that point. Which means that technically, I should know a lot.

Obisidmen take everything very slowly because when you have hundreds of years, what’s the rush? They are very curious about the world and thrist for knowledge of everything.

With this knowledge, I think I’m going to ammend my backstory to reflect what I know or to at least explain why I don’t have this knowledge. Perhaps, all my brotherhood were wiped out returning for my Awakening and I am now the first and therefore the Elder for the next generation but I need to go and learn so that I can tutor the next group. I don’t know.

However, Obsidimen provide a calming influence to Trolls. So Korose should never get really worked up when I’m around. Not saying he won’t kick butt when threatened but he shouldn’t be attacking unprovoked. :) These 2 guides are giving me a much greater insight into the world of Earthdawn. If I had the time, I’d read about the other races as well.

I’ve read through the section on my race and there might be a few things I’ll change in the future but I haven’t done anything too off scale for me. I’m debating to read the other races. I don’t know if I want to know how they think or do things. The Ork section had a few good incites to how the speaker thinks of the other races and I don’t know if I want to mingle things too much before I know what and how my character reacts to all the order races. In the future when my character is down I’ll probably go back and read about the other races.

As for an Ork’s view on Trolls:

Everything bad you ever heard about orks is true of
trolls. They are vicious killers with no honor, savage beasts
in a Name-giver’s form. Ever known a troll who wasn’t
stupid, destructive, and meaner than ale brewed from
snake venom, pretty boy? Hah. I thought not. They should
have been the slaves, not us—but you pretty weaklings of
Name-givers feared to fight them. So you beat the orks
down instead. All right, pretty elf…because you insist on
asking, I’ll admit I know a few trolls who have fought their
cruel natures and become honorable and brave. Not many,
mind you. You ask me, most trolls deserve to be thrown in
a tar pit to drown.

Sorry Ryan… but you aren’t the only one. The Ork doesn’t look too kindly on Windlings either.

Cool, I like it. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the guides as well. I think I may have actually read the Name-Giver one at one point or another. I don’t expect you guys to feel tied down to how to act based on how the book reads. If the guide says that most orks hate trolls but get along with humans, who’s to say you’re against the mold? Heck, look at Benoni the traitor? He loves dwarves and despises his own race! So there ya go! ;-)

Hey it not my fault that alot of my race lost the rich honor, which they
once had.

True it’s not your fault Benoni. It’s just your mom’s fault.
