Steel Thought
So, I posted the question about Steel Thought on the forums. One of the 3rd Edition creators responded with the following -
Steel though only allows the adept to prevent the effects of an ability placed on himself. Any other effects remain the same.
Simpler example:
A fireball is thrown at 3 adepts. The one with the highest Spell Defense also uses Steel thought, successfully. He prvents the spell from affecting him. This does neither help the other two adepts, nor is the DN for the spell changed to the second highest among the group. It’s still the Defense of the character who avoided the spell.
He doesn’t completely ignore the entire spell either, though, There’s still fire, and if he stood in a puddle of gasoline, it’d catch fire, and he’d be damaged by that despite it being caused by the fireball. The fireball didn’t affect him, but it affected the gasoline.
Regarding the Iron Web effect, he goes onto say that the effect might still provide the web, but that the magical barbs don’t affect the Weaponsmith – something like that. I think the idea of there just not being a path for the Weaponsmith would be the better approach. So, I think Eric and I were BOTH right – the spell doesn’t effect the Weaponsmith but the lingering effects are still there (I.E. Webs maze is still created, but there isn’t a path for the Weaponsmith.)
I’m already writing up the next part of the adventure titled, “Revenge of the Spiders”. :)
Bring it on!
My blades have never been sharper.
That is essentially what I was trying to explain at 1 in the morning :P
