Thursday – August 12th, 998 YK

Morning

You continue down the long winding staircase and notice that the stone walls feel warm to the touch. A faint pulsing red glow eminates further below. As you descend further, the warm glowing light grows hotter and the low rumbling sound of rock fills yours ears.

As you near the bottom of the staircase it opens into a wide chamber. The floor ends precipitously after 10 feet revealing a great chasm of molten lava.

Claustrophobic Mornings

November 01, 2009 11:00

Zor – Barrakas 12th, 998 YK
Thursday – August 12th, 998 YK

Morning

You awake the next morning and begin to search the corridor and treasure room. The corridor leads to a dead end. Above, the ceiling opens to a shaft and the third and final well. The room, after careful inspection by Morthos, reveals a secret revolving door along the back wall. Morthos opens it cautiously.

A wide hallway stretches away from you into the darkness. As you advance down the hallway, you see a portcullis ahead, its iron bars preventing further progress.

Beyond the portcullis, you can make out a flight of dark stone steps leading down. There is no lock and no apparent way to open the gate.

Suddenly the floor rumbles and a grinding sound rises from beneath the stones. With a resounding boom, the revolving wall behind slams shut. The sound of stone grating on stone fills your ears, and you realize that the wall is moving toward you.

Dragon's Hoard

Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

You cautiously climb down the well, descending over 40 feet below. Taveah is last to emerge after lowering her wolf companion.

You make your way down a long stone corridor until you reach a T-section. The corridor continues ahead, but the hall to your right opens to a massive chamber that you cannot help but notice.

Your eyes immediately fix upon the massive skeletal dragon reclining upon a pile of treasure in the center of the room. It takes you a moment to confirm that the skeleton is, in fact, not moving. At least not yet.

The treasure beneath the dragon skeleton looks to be primarily coins of silver and gold, with a few weapons and suits of armor partially submerged within mounds of precious metals. Atop the pile, a string of orblike beads glows with a faint orange radiance, as if lit by a flame from within. Near the center of the chamber sits a low stone platform 3 feet high. Atop the platform, three circular disks are arranged in a triangular pattern.

Just then a familiar draconic screech is heard from the corridor up ahead. It is the drake. It huge shadowy form fills the corridor as it flies toward you. Acid jets from its throat.

Vestry

November 01, 2009 10:20

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

After a short rest and much needed divine aid from Sejik you enter the chamber and discover the temple’s vestry.

A red silk hammock is strung across one side of the chamber, and gold glitters among the treasures and totems displayed on shelves throughout the room. A suit of golden ceremonial half-plate, made to accommodate a large tailed humanoid, occupies an armor stand in one corner. A silver crown etched with a draconic motif rests atop a large marble sphere. A gnarled wooden spear bound with feathers and mummified animal feet leans against the far wall. A shallow bowl filled with green liquid stands on a short pedestal.

“That must be the spear the pilgrims spoke of.” says Morthos.

After dividing the treasure you return to the Altar Chamber ans inspect the well.

“The relief in the main hall showed an underground chamber, these wells must lead there. But how do we get down and what of the drake below?” Sejik asks.

“We climb down and if we find the drake, we slay it.” Morthos confidently responds.

He tosses a rope down into well and secures it along the lip.

“Who wants to go first?” He asks.

Best Laid Plans

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

You carefully make your way back into the main hall and decide to investigate the room. The pillars along the center of the room are etched in draconic markings detailing the accounts of the great dragon Kha’shazul and his defeat of the Khyber demon lords. To the north, the room ends with another hallway that turns to the right in an easternly direction.

After a brief search of the area, Morthos notices 2 secret doors; one in the northwest corner of the room and one in the southeast. Each door is clearly activated by pressure plates in the floor.

The northwest door makes its way back to the Sacrificial Chamber (by way of yet another secret door) while the other opens into another hallway which curiously deadends some 20 or 30ft ahead. Morthos, enters the hall and upon reaching its end also sees signs of another pressure plate.

Not wanting to tempt fate any further, Morthos decides to avoid activating the plate and calls Miklos over.

Adept Dormitories

November 01, 2009 10:00

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

The battle now over, you retreat down the hall from whence you came and cautiously enter a hall through the wooden door on your left.

A short hallway leads to a suite of four rooms, each apparently the residence of a large humanoid creature. Oversized cots made of fine silk rope hang in each room, and the sickly sweet smell of incense lingers heavily in the air. Each room also contains a sturdy teak chest and a motley assortment of pungent smelling clay pots and urns.

Morthos makes quick work of picking the rolling combination locks on two of the 4 chests, while Kirin and Kohl impatiently make work of the 2 other chests by a more abrupt approach and smash them open. Amongst the clothing and ceremonial trappings in each chest, Morthos, Kirin and Kohl find small eberron dragonshards worth little more than 100 gold.

After some discussion about how to divvy the loot, you make your way deeper into the temple.

The Temple Within

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

Upon Morthos’ return you enter the temple. A wide hall runs from the portico entrance to the back wall, bisecting the structure. The ceiling rises fully 20 feet above a central row of columns, each encircled with scrawling text.

Shafts of moonlight lance down from gaps in the stone roof above, illuminating a bas-relief of a skeletal dragon sculpted into the wall at the end of the hallway. The dragon is shown in victorious battle against a horde of demons, rising like a swarm of locusts from the caldera of a raging volcano.

Morthos' Gambit

October 25, 2009 10:58

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

You race along the jungle path. The heavy sounds of clawed feet hitting the jungle floor not far behind. Branches and shrub lash at you as you jump off the path, hoping to confuse your enemy.

The Blackscale know the jungle well and follow you without error.

I just need to make it back to the huts.” you think desperately.

You continue your run. Your lungs scream.

Where are those huts?” you think. The horrible thought that you may have turned the wrong direction begins to creep into your thoughts.

Just then the jungle thick breaks free. The huts are just up ahead. The Blackscale are almost atop of you.

You summon another well of endurance and race along the dirt path and quickly jump behind the farthest hut. The Blackscale burst onto the scene. They snarl and hiss, smelling the air for tiefling sweat. Two enter the huts and smash around looking for you. The other two search the nearby area.

You stand, back against the wall of the mud hut, trying not to breathe too heavily. You didn’t expect them to be so quick. You cast a concealing aura around you and stealthly retreat from the camp.

I love this job.” you think to yourself.

With a smile, you make your way back to the temple portico. The Blackscale continue their search, completely unaware of your ruse.

Temple Portico

October 25, 2009 10:53

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

After the melee with the Blackscale and its pets, you search the huts in both camps. Among the litter of bones, jungle trinkets, and trash you find 3 small eberron shards, a few healing potions and coins worth around 250 gp.

You make your way towards the outer perimeter of the Temple Portico, using the cover of the jungle to get within view of the entrance.

Granite columns hold a stone roof 20 feet above a stepped stone platform. Between the columns, a low circular wall rises 3 feet from the floor, surrounding a circular well 10 feet across. At the north end of the portico, a short stair enters the temple proper. Between the columns, large bipedal creatures pace.

Blackscale Revenge

October 25, 2009 10:52

Wir – Barrakas 11th, 998 YK
Wednesday – August 11th, 998 YK

Evening

You hear the sounds of your enemies approach from the Blackscale camp. Sejik quickly heals his wounds, but otherwise, there is no time to rest. Taveah, Sejik and Miklos move to defensive positions behind the huts and await their arrival. Morthos again lies in wait on one of the mud hut roofs, while Kirin steps into the other hut ready to attack through the window.

Kirin spots the large shadow of the Blackscale within the treeline. He summons an arc of flame and hurls it at the creature. The Blackscale reels in pain but continues its approach.
