Eberron - Return of the Lich Queen

Khurystas Revealed

April 25, 2010 10:47
Far – Sypheros 28th, 998 YK
Friday – October 28th, 998 YK

Evening

You ascend the ramp to an enormous platform open to the harsh elements. Great iron spires carved in the images of the dragon gods line the treacherous parapets like the bars of a cage. Lightning and thunder crash directly overhead, electricity crackling around the perimeter. In the center of the platform is a large raised dais atop are the shattered remains of an ancient orrery. Next to the dais are two large skeletal dragon guardians. At random intervals, bursts of jagged lightning surge across the platform, arcing from pillar to pillar.

Like giant floating steps, observation platforms rise around you. Hovering above each is a shimmering light. A silvery feathered serpent lies silently to the west atop one of the steps. Several prismatic glowing chains bind the creature to the platform.

Destination Argonnessen

April 25, 2010 10:43
Far – Sypheros 28th, 998 YK
Friday – October 28th, 998 YK

Evening

[Group acquires passage on the Beginner’s Luck, an airship utilizing experimental elemental binding technology known as Open Matrix. The ships captain is named Blackwillow. The group travels to Argonnessen and encounters many dangers within the Orrery.]

Pale starlight shines down on enormous stone monoliths rising from the bay, each carved in the likeness of a gigantic dragon. A black wyrm’s skull-like visage gazes down at your ship, so lifelike that it seems about to snatch the vessel up and swallow it whole. Farther on, a crested green seems to regard your approach with suspicion, and a smirking blue glares with malice as you sail past.

To the south loom the mountains of the Great Barrier, against which pale moonlight outlines dozens more draconic totems of tremendous size. As they have been throughout the journey, two of Eberron’s moons are slowly closing in on a third as they sail across the sky. A conjunction is coming, and soon from the look of it.

The fires from the barbarian village ahead illuminate the beach as your airship descends closer for view. The village is all but destroyed. Its defensive walls of wood and bone are shattered, and human corpses lie strewn along the sand.

Your airship continues across the beach and over a vast forest. Hours of constant forest and rocky land pass under your ship. Eventually, your ship reaches the edge of the dwindling forest. The lines of the still-distant observatory are barely visible in the gathering gloom. From the dark sky above the crater, a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder herald the coming of the storm.

Afteroon

[Morthos, Caiphys and Sejik – Trolanport Skill Challenge]

You arrive in Trolanport. The weather is cloudy and cool, rain is likely to come. Fall has definitely arrived. You move through customs showing your travel papers to a gnome agent. He looks at you briefly.

Before passing you on he boringly says, “Welcome to Trolanport. Enjoy the sights, but be wary at night. We are currently dealing with an unwelcome Sahuagin infestation.”

You ask for the location of their Temple district, and he directs you over to a small mobile office near the docks. Above a small bay window is a sign that reads Trolan Porters. You approach the window and are greeted by a young Zil woman. After 2 silvers you have a map of the city.

You look at the map and realize the city is fragmented by scores of canals. The main method of travel is by Zondola, a narrow flat bottom rowboat. You look about and sure enough, dozens of travelers purchase canal tickets and float their way to their respective destinations. Sahuagin warning signs line banks of the canals. Not wanting to spend several hours on foot, you do the same. 4 silvers later you are aboard one of the small boats. A gnome Zondalier quietly stands behind you and steers the quaint vessel across the waterway.

Swiftwind's Final Voyage

April 18, 2010 10:00

Zol – Sypheros 17th, 998 YK
Tuesday– October 17th, 998 YK

Evening – Aboard the Swiftwind

[Skill Challenge – Taveah, Kohl and Miklos]

BOOM! You are tossed from your bed in the middle of the night. Furniture and glassware crash to the floor as ship heaves and rocks wildly. BOOM! Another huge explosion rocks the ship.

As you quickly gather your senses and your gear, you hear crazed screams from the deck and the sound of battle. Just as you leave, a jet of magefire crashes through the outer hull of your room. You narrowly escape and head down the ship’s hall.

You enter the ship’s hall and quickly head for the stairs to the deck above. Just before you reach the stairs, an arcane column of force pounds through the ceiling, driving straight down to the bottom of the ship. You leap to avoid the attack.

The massive column of force explodes before your feet before you can react. You are thrown across the hall and into the ships wall. You sit dazed for several moments, a loud ringing fills your ears.

You reach the deck just in time to see a wounded helmsman stagger. He lets go of the ship’s wheel, and the ship swings around crazily. Flames flicker everywhere. Arcane blasts of energy assail the deck and crew. Above, the shadow of an airship hulll looms overhead. Crimson clad elven pirates descend onto the deck and attack mercilessly. Your companions are aboard as well. Across the ship you see Sur’kil besieged by two large skeletal creatures clad in rotting crimson robes. Their giant clawlike fingers slash at Sur’kil. Across the deck several pirates snarl awaiting your next move.

Library of Korranberg Part 2

April 11, 2010 10:15

Sar – Sypheros 14th, 998 YK
Saturday – October 14th, 998 YK

Morning

The next morning Miklos, Taveah, Kohl and Sejik travel to the Blackdragon College campus to visit the Library of Lost Secrets. After a meeting with the librarian, Miklos is given an orange guiding crystal and directions to the library.

After a short walk, you enter a massive circular room lined with doors from floor to ceiling. Miklos uses the guiding crystal to bring the correct door to him. The door opens to reveal a winding hallway. The guiding crystal leads you quickly through the first floor, which is a well-lit warren of book-filled nooks and crannies thoroughly seeded with comfortable chairs and desks. Once you reach the back stairwell, the journey becomes more surreal. The crystal guides you down several flights, then leads you out onto a floor that appears identical to the first floor but has no windows or students. It glides up a flight of stairs, into a small corridor that opens into another flight of stairs, and then down another two levels to a door.

A large sphere set in the ceiling gives off a flameless glow as you enter the room. The dry smells of cracked leather and ancient paper assault you from the shelving in the wall and the freestanding wooden shelves.

The door slams shut behind you, and the room falls into complete darkness before the sphere in the ceiling flickers back to life, though it does not shine as brightly as before. A pair of luminescent eyes watches you through the gaps in the freestanding bookcases, and a chorus of whispered voices sounds in your ears:

Library of Korranberg Part 1

April 11, 2010 10:10

Far – Sypheros 13th, 998 YK
Friday – October 13th, 998 YK

Morning

[Miklos & Taveah travel to Blackdragon College to review stacks for information regarding the 3 artifacts from Kha’shazul. He is assisted by students from the college. More research in the Library of Lost Secrets is needed tomorrow.]

The library appears larger on the inside than from the outside—and from the outside, it looks massive.

The clerk provides Miklos with a catalog stone an orange colored finger sized crystal that feels warm to the touch.

“It is keyed to the topics you require”, the clerk nods. “The stacks are that way.”

You follow the clerk’s directions and find the stacks. A private study cell is provided, a small pool of light in a vast, open darkness located somewhere in the library’s extradimensional space. Within the pool of light, a desk, chair, work table, and narrow pedestal are placed for the researcher’s use, a long with quills, ink, parchment, and sealing wax.

Miklos places the catalog stone atop the pedestal. Suddenly, alcoves formed of shelves full of books and scrolls rush out of the darkness to create the walls of your study cell.

Miklos claps his hands eagerly. “Ok everyone, start reading!”

[Morthos and Caiphys devise plan to throw off scent of Tharashk bounty hunters]

[Sejik meets with Halas to convert him to follower of the Traveler and meets up with Miklos later in the evening.]

[Kohl street preaches and meets up with Miklos later in the evening.]

[All PCs retire to the Salient Green to meet Baklos for drinks later that night]
