The Fog Rises

March 07, 2010 10:00

Wir – Rhaan 18th, 998 YK
Wednesday– September 18th, 998 YK

Evening

After two days of intricate mapwork, Miklos finishes copying High Prince Rygar’s map. The final night is a long and laborious one. Error corrections and other details, combined with a long, albeit pleasant though unfortunate dinner with the High Prince, the work is completed shortly before low twelve. Prince Rygar had made a point to comment on Miklos’ superb cartography, now only if he hadn’t spoiled the comment with the news of his brother Thrakos’ release from Regalport custody.

“Friends in high places in Port Verge? My arse and my rum…” Miklos grumbles reflecting on the conversation.

As Miklos wraps up his belongings and leaves the Dragoneye, his mind wanders to more pleasant portions of the High Prince’s dinner conversations. Particularly his discussion about the nature and associations of their enigmatic employer Sur’kil.

“The Chamber? Sur’kil is an agent of the Chamber? I can still hardly believe it.” he mutters to himself gleafully.

“I wonder if we are in the annals of the Draconic Prophecy? What else could the Chamber want with us? Miklos… Miklos…” he shakes his head still lost in his private conversation. “You dolt, it’s the Dragon’s Eye, not us that is the prize. Ah well… Perhaps, though he could grant me audience with the Librarian of Io’Lokar! Wouldn’t that be wonderful?”

It’s then when Miklos notices a significant change in temperature while walking along the deserted docks towards the Swiftwind. A thick, fast moving fog rolls in off the harbor. Miklos strains to see more than a few feet in front of him. Weary of the sudden change in weather, he picks up his pace.

Taveah

February 28, 2010 10:17

Sar – Rhaan 14th, 998 YK
Saturday – September 14th, 998 YK

Morning

Even in the early morning Regalport’s Pirate Exchange is overrun with merchants of all castes and creeds plying their wares on the unwary and unscrupulous alike. Taveah – who is neither – walks with Skarn at her side. The wolf sniffs at the air suspiciously, wary of the many strange scents in the harbor air. Her dragonmark itches but she resists scratching it, feeling – perhaps unreasonably – this would grant it some sort of satisfaction. Taveah’s never been a vain woman, but she is Kael and the mark’s location bothered her greatly. Why did it have to adorn her face? Her mark was plain for all to see and judge.

Against her better judgment she didn’t protest the resurrection of Thraxis. That Miklos’s brother was a bastard was not in question, whether he was a useful bastard, however, was. If Miklos had resisted she would’ve supported him, but he seems more concerned with getting his contract signed. Even so, she certainly wasn’t about to take part in the event. Instead, she’s decided to take the opportunity to get a bit of shopping done.

Skarn lets out a sharp bark and growl as a dwarf passes too closely to Taveah.

“Watch ‘yer mutt!” he spits, but Taveah only smiles at her timberwolf companion.

Thursday – September 12th, 998 YK

Evening

After three nights to discuss what transpired at the docks of Dreadhold prison and Damog’s attempts to take Jukkeam you decide that it would be best that there was a change of leadership with the Sea Wyverns.

Sejik and Kohl find Doc Grimm on the top deck. After a brief conversation, it is determined that Doc Grimm will not take part in an open mutiny against his long time friend. However, he would not turn down the opportunity to take over leadership. Sejik, having heard the crew members’ doubts about Damog, speaks to them about the possibility of a promotion for Doc Grimm.

Once the crew is aware of the plan, Sejik produces a bottle of heathen’s rum, and the group marches to the Captain’s quarters.

Knock… Knock… Knock.

Receiving Docks

February 28, 2010 10:05

Mol – Rhaan 9th, 998 YK
Monday – September 9th, 998 YK

Evening

You quickly make your way back to the underground harbor. The Laughing Lady floats gently in the cavern waterway. The unloading is completed, and now only a single gangplank connects the ship to the dock. Groups of dwarves patrol the cavern, a hulking ogre stands near another dwarf who you can only assume must be Warden Figlamn. Two massive ballistae, one at each end of the cavern, point ominously toward the waterway, though the siege weapons currently have no one at their controls.

The group of newly armed prisoners bursts onto the docks from a Prison entrances on the south wall. Having been captured and enslaved for so long, their resulting enthusiasm at a chance for escape proves to be the perfect distraction for you.

“Graax, Khazâd dur gundu!” shouts Figlamn as he raises his axe and charges the escaping prisoners.

Hearing the clamor of battle dockside you prepare to slip into the chamber via the eastern entrance, near the bow spirit of the Laughing Lady. Kirin leaves the corridor first. He spies only a few House Kundarak guards nearby the ship and motions for Morthos to follow.

As silent as the two of them are, the guards are hard pressed not to notice when Sejik and the heavily armored Kohl emerge from the hall. One of the dwarves shouts a short alarm in his gravelly native tongue and moves forward to engage you. Kohl and Sejik, realize their stealthy exit has been compromised and ready themselves for the attack.

Expeditious Retreats Part 2

February 28, 2010 10:03

Mol – Rhaan 9th, 998 YK
Monday – September 9th, 998 YK

Evening

Wounded, weary and wary, you enter the forge room. Morthos wanders around purposefully, searching for something.

As the forge room is located between the cell block and the escape route, a choice must be made.

”We must free the prisoners.” Kohl recommends, his tone inferring there will be no negotiation on this point.

”So, what’s the plan?” Kirin inquires, a hint of challenge in his voice.

As your party discusses various strategies, Morthos returns to the group, looking somewhat disgruntled. Miklos, spotting the teifling, exclaims ”I’ve got it! Let’s send Morthos to collect the prisoners and bring them back here, then we can make our exit.” Morthos sighs, as the prisoners’ lot is none of his concern, then shrugs ”Sure. Why not?” having concluded the freed prisoners would make an effective distraction.

Taveah steps forward. ”I will accompany him.”

Expeditious Retreats

February 28, 2010 10:00

Mol – Rhaan 9th, 998 YK
Monday – September 9th, 998 YK

Evening

Though fatigued from your battle with the Foulspawn and Mouthers you decide you must soon reach the ship or risk it sailing without you. Morthos and Taveah scout ahead as you make your way back up the cavern toward Dreadhold’s dungeon block. You move quietly and stick to the shadows. Approaching the chamber leading into the mines, Taveah and Morthos motion for everybody to hold up. The six Dwarves that Miklos successfully distracted have returned; they seem alert and wary of any further tricks.

“I doubt they’ll fall for the same trick,” Taveah whispers.

“They’re only dwarves,” Kirin boldly proclaims a bit too loudly. “who’s afraid of them?”

Suddenly, there is movement from inside the chamber. The dwarves are alerted to your presence and turn to investigate. Kirin realizes he may have spoken a bit too loudly and steps back towards the wall and fades away, almost transparently.

Taveah glares at the ranger. “Everyone prepare!”

Khyber Crawls

February 21, 2010 10:15

Mol – Rhaan 9th, 998 YK
Monday – September 9th, 998 YK

Evening

You make your way through the cavern and notice the remains of several guards and prisoners. Many of the remains are little more than sticky coagulated pools of bone and goo; few others are partially eaten and mummified. Those still with heads and faces betray a death filled with fear and madness. Ahead, the corridor seems to widen, as if someone has tried to carve out a chamber here. Strange gibbering voices whisper from within. The echoes crawl along the cavern walls through the darkness and into your mind.
