Pacoy Aquino is brilliant, and he could have ended up as one of the leading scientific minds in the world if it wasn’t for one simple problem – Pacoy cannot handle money. Growing up in a hard-working Fil-Am Prole household, Pacoy was raised to work hard and look to the a brighter future, and those values propelled him to the top of his class – a virtuoso at engineering and mathematics. Besides giving him a top-notch education, life at
MIT also introduced him to dorm-room gambling. Winning the laundry money from college kids quickly lost it’s thrill, and Pacoy spent more and more time finding high-stakes card games. With smart betting and card counting, Pacoy could make more money in a night gambling than his father made in a year. Of course, lucky eventually run out, and Pacoy found himself owing a lot of money to dangerous people. Between the Ups of luck, keen math skills, and shady uses of his technical skills, Pacoy managed to stay one step ahead of serious trouble. When trouble did break out, Pacoy surprises most people with his ability to respond in kind. A small-time hood with delusions of grandeur named Remy Sumanting tried to muscle Pacoy into indefinite servitude, and things ended in blood and one less wannabe crime-lord, but who know the man had so many damn cousins?
Pacoy loves money and the lifestyle it lets him live, but he just can’t seem to hold on to it for more than a few minutes at a time. In a way to help fund his lifestyle, Pacoy has been doing increasingly illegal “sidejobs”, it started out with the occasional off the books cyberware repair, then actually installing “non-standard purchased” ware into people. Pacoy has moved beyond rationalizing his deeds – he went from building a few recon-drones for mobsters to accompanying some Edgerunnners as an on-sight techie – that job brought in enough money and excitement that Pacoy is looking for a reliable crew that might be interested in a full-time tech-geek. Pacoy has a plan and the means to accomplish it, he just needs to get some cash and avoid the Sumantings long enough to build a solid foundation for himself.
