Monkey is dark-haired and fair, even though she was born and raised in the south. She never took to the sun well, even as a child, and was prone to frequent sunburns that have left her overly covered in freckles. Still, she has the vibrant red eyes of a southerner and although not the most striking beauty in Creation, she has had no trouble tumbling into the beds of men who catch her eyes.
For the most part, Monkey wears clothes that suit her profession – practical leathers that allow her to easily navigate the rough terrain of lost manses. When out under the sun, however, she is always cloaked and veiled, protecting as much of her sensitive skin from the sun as possible.
Monkey (or ‘Monk’ as she’s affectionately called by friends) was born due to a romantic, passionate affair between her father, a Creation-famous scavenger lord, and her mother, a Dragon-Blooded princess. Or so she’s told. Monkey never met her mother, and although she adored her father dearly and memorized every word of each of his wild adventures, he spent more time out adventuring than he did with his only (as far as she is aware) child.
And so, Monkey grew up in Varangia with a pair of wealthy family friends. Life wasn’t hard there because she was raised by members of the higher caste, but in ways life was hard because she wasn’t a member of any caste. Varangia isn’t the most friendly to outsiders, and the young woman was never exactly an insider even though she was raised there her whole life.
One day, around the time she turned seventeen, months went by without her hearing any news of her father, and after a heated argument with her guardians, the young woman shocked everyone by exalting as a Dragon-Blooded. No longer trapped in the hot, stuck-up city-state of Varang, Monkey escaped being given to the Realm as tribute and ran off in search of her missing father, who was rumored to have been close to home upon his disappearance.
Monkey knows that she may never find him, but she’s determinedly optimistic about her endeavor to discover the truth. On the way, she intends to make as much of a name for herself as possible, so that when she does come face to face with him – in this life or the next – she can boast greater stories than she ever heard as a child.
