Bio

Julian’s History begins with his father.

John Splicer and his brother, Jack, were born to sail on the seas. This came to fruition when they decided to become pirates. They hired a crew, bought a ship, and started on their way. Along with their crew, the Splicers managed to raid and commandeer a few ships, including a small one from a private owner, which they kept for themselves. They became smugglers, thieves, merchants of the black market, and whatever else they thought of for a quick and easy buck. The lifestyle was good to them. They had fame, money, a daredevil approach, good friends in the crew and, in John’s case, a loving wife named Amelia with a baby on the way.

Years later, a very dangerous pirate named Ryker Morgan managed to get his hands on an emerald amulet and an emerald ring, said to be owned by legendary pirate William Vane. They were very significant artifacts and worth more than an earl’s house. Unfortunately for him, the amulet and ring were taken in a raid on the ship by the Splicer brothers. When the delivery boy told the pirate lord of the theft, the captain began his search for the people responsible.

A few months later, he had found them. The Splicer brothers, John’s wife and now twelve year old son, Julian, and the crew and their families were all enjoying themselves at John’s home when they were attacked by the Captain and his crew, who were all dressed as the law enforcement of the land. Their families in danger, they crew attempted to escape as Jack and a few crewman who didn’t have families slowed them down. Captain Morgan succeeded in running Jack through, give John an almost crescent shape scar on his cheek tracing down to under his lip, and he shot Amelia.

The survivors took refuge in a cave for three months after the attack. John made his plans for vengeance in this time. Julian’s training intensified. The crew found new members. In John’s mind, he had died in that attack. What emerged from that cave was not the Splicer brother’s merry crew. What emerged from that cave was the infamous pirate captain, ‘Feral’ Flynn Flannigan and his dreaded crew.

In the meanwhile, Captain Morgan was angry. He didn’t care that he had made John Splicer pay for stealing for him with blood, or that he had recovered the amulet. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t a total victory. The emerald ring of pirate lord William Vane was still around John’s finger, and he would not rest until the set was once again complete.

Captain Flynn and his crew moved to get new equipment for what they had lost. The Captain himself managed to arm himself with his own cutlass on his left hand side, his pistol, a boarding ax on the outside of his left thigh, a knife in his right boot, a few grenados, and his brother’s rapier, which he managed to grab on his way our that fateful night, on his right side.

Their attacks were numerous over the next year, mostly targeting government ships and police forces. They accomplished many things this way. Julian’s fighting ability improved dramatically in this time, along with his taste for gold and his rebellious heart. The crew became very rich. And the legend of Feral Flynn Flanagan was spreading. He marked those who dared oppose him with a scar like his own, letting the believed to be police chief (Morgan) know exactly who was doing this. They disguised themselves to spread rumors of Flynn. Within months, he was believed to be some kind of devil or demon, gifted with dark, supernatural abilities. People believed he brought down an airship with a single bullet of his pistol. They believed he had swam from Nolle to Xandrik. They believed he had been shot over one hundred times, but he was hadn’t even noticed it. They believed he was Captain Vane incarnate.

Captain Flynn worked to improve the sheer fear people had of him in other ways. His training had been advanced in ways to allow him to do the ridiculous and believed impossible, and he proudly displayed that on one day in particular. He had allowed himself to be captured and, during what was to be his public execution, he managed to escape (with a little help from the crew). One face in particular stood out in the crowd, though. The police chief who had killed his wife and brother had come to watch his demise. During the frenzy of his escape, Captain Morgan was exposed, himself. Flynn and Morgan’s crew made their escape. Once they had lost their pursuers, Morgan tried to kill Flynn. Knowing that, even if he could kill Morgan he wouldn’t be able to survive the crew, he did one of those escapes he was known for and got himself up to a high ledge. Incapable of duplicating the move, Morgan just exchanged glares with Flynn, who swore vengeance to him and left.

Flynn informed his crew about what had happened. Now, with the law and the infamous pirate Morgan after them, they needed to play a little safer. They moved to Golgath, where Flynn left the crew in charge of the protection and training of the now sixteen-year-old Julian Splicer, and he made his way back to seas, desperately seeking vengeance and a way to bring back those taken from him, drinking and stealing along the way.

The crew was about making it’s name ans sowing chaos and fear into the waters after the death of his mother and uncle.
After his father allowed himself to be captured and escaped to raise his own reputation, the crew became hunted by the law and a crew known for killing, raping, and pillaging, father and son went separate ways, with Flynn working toward revenge and his own life now dedicated to study and training.

This is where his story truly starts.

Having lived his entire life as a pirate, there would be no other life for Julian. However, he could still hear the call of the waves, smell the salt of the sea, and feel the cool breeze. It was begging him to return.

So, as expected, it wasn’t very long at all before he started to get antsy. He trained hard, but his free time, usually consumed by port, rum, and shenanigans, was now spent pacing In their little cabin in the woods. He hated the woods. He hated that his life, where he cared little of being seen or known, was now training in secrecy. He argued back and forth with the quartermaster, Remington Benning, about going to sea and resuming their life. His efforts were in vain. So, he hatched a brilliant plan.

Julian challenged the first Remington to the right of command. Remington refused, stating he was first mate and Captain Flannigan was not present for a challenge. Julian countered, saying that since his father had been away for months, the Pyrate Codex dictated that he was to be left, making Remington the captain. The crew, full knowing Julian’s loyalty to his father, his sea deprived anxiety, and that his bark was much worse than his bite, just laughed, and Julian slumped off.

Anxious to escape and incapable of persuading his crew to join him, Julian fled in the middle of the night.
