For most of the children growing up in the bustling port towns of East Rikkan life was hard and often short-lived. They learned fast how to think on their feet, to hide their emotions and how to deal with the pirates, thieves and shady black-market merchants that inhabited the area. But in amongst this land of treachery and decay lived a single shining soul; full of light, hope and unrivaled potential.
Erza had fallen in love with the ocean the moment she had first laid her eyes upon it. The vast blue expanse of shimmering water stretching out over the horizon called out to her. Ever since she could remember her and her mother had sailed throughout the area offering healing to all those that had need of it. It was a simple life but one that she treasured more than anything else in this world.
But all good things must come to an end; a lesson that Erza learned only too well. There was so much commotion in the town that day; whispers of ancient evil and terrors in the deep. So why had her mother sailed out unaided, leaving her precious daughter alone on the shore?
