The nature and reason for Dr. Malcolm Barber’s assignment to Telemachus remains a secret, but he has never concealed the fact that he considers his tour of duty aboard the ship as an “exile.” Interestingly enough, he also holds the rank of Captain/O-6, which makes his assignment under a mere commander, Donovan Ford, all the more inexplicable.
