Bio

Born in the N’Bari region to a loving father and mother, Pip started out under the name Rell Doublered. Her House, in fact all of her people had reached their zenith years before, with a large kingdom that was heavy hit by the Great Goblin War, and then subjected to Human rule after the war. She knew the life of comfort, seclusion, and – always lingering – the hatred of others for being Vryloka.

As time passed from the Great Goblin War, Humans populated the town more and more. Vryloka were not allowed to travel at night, not allowed to spend too much time outside areas Humans didn’t want and not allowed to mingle with the Humans.

When she was fourteen, her mother was accused of robbing a local Human, whose riches didn’t measure up to what the House Double Red possessed. The fact that her mother was a rogue before the Goddess Red Knight reformed them, was enough to give her the death sentence. She was hanged and the family was never the same.

Rell’s talents were tied to her having – as most Invokers have – a vestige of her Goddess. She studied well and accepted her position, but after her mother was killed, she beseeched the House to grant her the title of Avenger. The Goddess Red Knight is tactical first, and jovial second, so the priests all agreed that the playing board simply had no revenge participants on the table: The Church of the Red Knight would not accept Avengers, and her father backed the church.

When she questioned her father, he explained that it was too risky, and too similar to being a rogue. He would not have her die like her mother. When pressed, the father also spoke of a brother that was still in the mother’s womb.

A few days later, local N’Bari attacked the castle in large numbers. Rell’s father pushed her to the weapon’s rack where she reached her mother’s weapon, and used it to escape with her life. Her father had died before her eyes in a hail of crossbow bolts.

She was taken in by Marthelles. She had training a steady shoulder and her father’s halberd – Marthellas was able to retrieve it for her. Rell Doublered lapsed in her religious beliefs after all that had happened. She threw her symbol of the Red Knight into the river.

She agreed to be hidden in a dig site, where many wizards were having a difficult time translating the writings they had found. The Vryloka had been able to pick up languages quickly thanks to the Red Witch and Pip, as Marthellas called her, was only too happy to do her share.

Her hair was dyed white, and her clothes were various shades of gray to blend her into the rocks of the dig. Nobody her age or race for three years spoke to her, except for her Aunt who was still safe. She would come and cheer her up twice a year.

While in the dig site, Sehanine spoke to her. She embraced the new Goddess.
