Ivarr is one of the sons of Ragnarr Lodhbrok, the famous champion of the Danir who was killed by King Aella of Eoforwic (Jorvik). The origin of the nickname “Boneless” (“inn Beinlausi”) is obscure – leading theories are that it refers to a sexual dysfunction, that it refers to his being “snakelike” in cunning, or that it refers to his spirit being that of a linnorm.
