Backstory

Dagmar determined the following about the ring:

• The Ring’s name is Cat’s Claw. It was a famous weapon that could create and throw taloned bolas from the wearer’s hand. It has 8 ranks.
• It was created by the famed Human Weapsonsmith & Scout Garid Lee of Kratas for himself during the early days of the Scourge.
• Garid Lee was accused of giving a Horror access to the Citadel of Kratas after it had closed. He was branded a traitor and then executed. His possessions were confiscated.
• The last owner of the ring was clearly Trejak.
• There is a deed associated with unlocking the final rank of Cat’s Claw.

Thread Rank One
Key Knowledge: The wearer must learn the ring’s Name. The ring’s name is Cat’s Claw
Effect: Acting as though throwing a weapon, the wielder invokes the power of the ring, and a taloned bola springs from the ring toward it’s target, with these statistics:
Damage Step: 4
Short Range in yards (hexes): 2-12 (1-6)
Long Range in yards (hexes): 13-24 (7-12)
Entanglement Difficulty: 11

If the bola successfully entangles an opponent, the bola remains until either the wielder wills it to disappear or the opponent successfully disentangles themself, at which point it also disappears. Should the wielder choose to throw another bola, the target currently entangled is immediately freed. If the bola misses, or hits but does not entangle, it also immediately disappears.

Effect: The wielder may now have two bolas actively entangling targets at once. If they choose to throw a third, the first opponent entangled is immediately released as the bola entangling them disappears.

Key Knowledge: The owner must learn the Name of the Weaponsmith who created Cat’s Claw. The famed Human Weaponsmith/Scout Garid Lee from Kratas created Cat’s Claw a century before the Scourge.
Effect: The Entangling Difficulty of Cat’s Claw increases to 13.

Effect: The wielder may now have three bolas actively entangling targets at once. If they choose to throw a fourth, the first opponent entangled is immediately released as the bola entangling them disappears.

Thread Rank Five
Key Knowledge: The owner must learn how the creator of the ring later lost it. Garid Lee was accused of giving a Horror access to the Citadel of Kratas. He was executed and branded a traitor. His possessions were confiscated.
Effect: With concentration, a released bola can be made to expand to entangle more or larger targets. The wielder can now target two adjacent Namegivers (aside from Dragons) at their highest Physical Defense +1 per throw. Alternatively, the wielder can target a single large creature occupying no more than 4 yards (2 hexes) on a side. This costs 1 Strain for each attempt.

Effect: The wielder may now have four bolas actively entangling targets at once. If they choose to throw a fifth, the first opponent entangled is immediately released as the bola entangling them disappears. The Entangling Difficulty of Cat’s Claw increases to 15.
