After House Steadwater managed to reclaim their lands and more, House Swann wanted to ensure that no further reproach would be taken upon them. It wasn’t their idea to take the old Steadwater lands. They were given to them by the cruel and inexperienced King Joffrey. So, it was decided to send a hostage to House Steadwater, one of the House’s heirs to swear fealty specifically to House Steadwater.

Thus Rovym of House Swann was forced to bend his knee to the new Hand of the King, being twice his senior it was assumed this act of humble humiliation would be enough to appease.
